The BEST heavy shade tolerant mix available on the market today. JRK Seed Company Dense Shade Mix will thrive in heavy to modest shade and in moist conditions. Under tree use requires a consistent irrigation for success with competing moisture use from nearby trees. Does not need to be fertilized more than 4 times a year, with emphasis on making sure ample irrigation is supplied to area. Suggested use: part shade to sun areas, under pine trees that are trimmed up to mow under, all shade trees at the heaviest canopy, over seeding problematic shaded areas that all other grasses have problems establishing. Gertens only uses the best premium grass seeds. The big brands often package their seeds in plastic bags, our seed is stored in breathable cloth bags, never suffocating plastic. Formulated and put up for Mid and Northern-tier State lawns.

Thick, green, all-weather and in shade
After trying a lot of different seeds off the shelf from every place that sold them - cheap or otherwise - I looked online. When I found these seeds, they only had the one review, five stars. The description sounded like what I needed and as my yard is officially Frankenstein when it comes to what's growing in it, I decided to take a chance.Last year, before the remnants of two hurricanes blew through with corresponding rain, I was able to get about half the bag out. Mind you, I am a man and therefore am not good at following directions. All of my successful seeding has been from a particular method and I used that. One bag go topsoil in a wheelbarrow, enough seed to mix and be plentiful, then distribute to yard, regardless of what's growing there already. The density of the seed mix, with good seed, will grow to choke everything else out.I used that method before the weather came and forced me inside until, essentially, winter. The seed did not grow much, if at all, for the first 8-10 days. I could see the tips of blades of grass trying to make their way up. And then, over the next three days, it grew out like it was blooming. I suppose it was the ability to actually get sunlight. Even though we got something along the lines of 20 inches of rain, it did not wash away or drown. It sprouted. It has remained green and such throughout winter, including one very unseasonable and significant snow and some sub-20 degree nights. It's shady where I planted it, with a few hours of direct sun followed by shade shade shade. I just put the rest of the bag out. If it performs like the first half bag, I'll do the entire yard in it. It's soft, vibrant and it has not needed a single mow.

Seeds look old.
Only partial germination, in some areas, under same conditions and sun exposure.

I got layed out right when I got them. ...
I got layed out right when I got them. Well packaged and actually arrived few days earlier to my surprise. Thankfully it got plenty of water and literally started to push within a couple days. Can't wait to see the progress it is pushes in the darker areas. Planned to do a second round to fill it even more
