Shrimp safe filter
Works great for my 10 gallon tanks. Shrimp are all over the sponges. Pump is consistent so far (2 months) The suction cups are lame, but I’ve never had any suction cups last very long anyway. Very quiet when you fill the tank the tank limiting the “waterfall” from the outlet. Bought these to limit the gadgets attached to the tanks. Have 2 of these going in a bedroom so it definitely is very quiet. Recommend this pump filter combination…..if I have problems I will definitely change the review.

A very versatile accessory. I highly recommend it, if it will fit in your tank.
This seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. My intention was to replace a power filter and a foam filter that requires an air pump with with this. The reviews were the highest of any product I've ever seen on Amazon. No 1 or 2 star reviews at all.I have a standard 10 gallon tank. I ordered the small filter because the picture indicated that total height was 6-9", which was perfect for a landscaped 10 gallon tank.As you can see from my pictures, after I assembled it, the shortest total height was almost 12", not the 6" indicated in their picture. It will barely fit upright in an empty 10 gallon tank.My main concern is the water flow rate. While it would probably be alright, I won't know if it is too high until I actually put it in the tank. But I can't put it in the tank because it is too long to fit. I can easily trim the lift tube so that it will fit the tank, but then if it did not work, I can't return it and no doubt that would void the warranty as well. If I needed to, I could reduce the flow rate somewhat I could do that by switching out the pearls with a high density carbon fiber filter, but I do not know what effect that would have on the motor. The bottom line is that if the lift tube were shorter, it would already be in the tank.--------------------------------------I upgraded this to a 4 stars today. I've been using a five gallon bucket to test this, and it really is impressive. Super quiet. I'm still undecided on the flow rate, but I have a simple work around for that if I need it. The pearl chambers are very versatile. I have problems with phosphates in the water. It was easy enough to cut a piece of phosphate filter media and add it on top of the pearls. I'm especially impressed with the inclusion of a venturi in the distribution nozzle to help aerate the water. Someone obviously put a lot of thought into the design on this.At this point I would recommend it with the understanding that it almost a full 12' tall at the shortest. If your tank will handle that height, then this is one pump that is worth the money.

Works as advertised
Product works good and is easy to use. However, I failed to make sure it would fit in my 20 gallon long dirted tank.

Bought this just less than a year ago and it stopped working last week. It worked great until now.

Save Your Money, Purchase Something Better The FIRST Time.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend this filter. Is it easy to use? Yes. Is it quiet? Yes. Does it work well? No. Is it worth your money? Also no. Does it keep your tankclean? While it cycles and there is hardly anything in there it does. Any other time, no.I bought this for a 20Gal tank, I have been using it since late October 2024 when I started cycling my tank and I finally got my 6 pea puffers December 8th. I started having issues with it by late December. Yes Pea Puffers are messy eaters, but the super fine sponges this AQQA filter comes with are ridiculous. They pick up no larger particles at all. My tank always has this cloudiness to it despite weekly water changes (sometimes biweekly if I choose to do a smaller water changes) WITH substrate siphoning. The sponges quickly “clog up” and drastically reduce the flow output. Leaving you will almost stagnant water. Where especially when you have a planted tank, biofilm finds itself a nice home. If you read the reviews, one way (beyond cleaning your sponge constantly) is to pull the sponge up off the base a bit just before you get to the first set of intake holes. This does a pretty good job of limping this along as far as flow for awhile. However, as others have mentioned flow continues to decrease over time regardless to what you do, probably because the motor is junk and it is fighting against burdensome sponges.I did try quite hard to find a sponge with a large porosity to fit the intakes. Try as I might, I never found one with a hole small enough to actually stay on the intake. It was frustrating. Actually right now I have one sponge that it came with and an Aquael sponge cinched on to it with thread. IDK if it is even accomplishing anything. So here I am almost to March, 5 months later, I have done a lot of troubleshooting. Ultimately I decided this was a crap purchase. Hopefully I can save someone else from making the same mistake.
