Fantastic pencils!!
No joke...of all the stuff I've ever bought on Amazon, this has brought me the most pleasure. The writing is super smooth and intensely dark.I take only hand-written notes when studying (yes, I'm old school), and my hand doesn't get fatigued at all when using this pencil. I don't find any noticeable difference in the thickness of the pencil or lead as mentioned in other reviews. Although, if you have dry skin, you may find you have to re-grip it often due to the shiny coating that's used.I have a nice photo comparing this new Mitsubishi Hi-Uni 2b to previous notes I took with my Ticonderoga #2, but sadly, the photo upload tool isn't working. If you prefer pencils to pens for writing, this is the pencil for you. I'll definitely be purchasing more. Happy writing!!

HI-UNI pencils stand out as unparalleled among other brands.
HI-UNI pencils stand out as unparalleled among other brands. Whether in terms of the feel of use or the exquisite craftsmanship, they demonstrate unmatched superiority. Paired with my beloved Chrome Hearts pencil sharpener, they perfectly embody the combination of superb craftsmanship and outstanding performance. HI-UNI is undoubtedly my preferred choice, an irreplaceable selection of pencils.

Excellent quality, soft yet durable lead
I spent my schooling years in Malaysia and Singapore where 2B pencils were the pencils of choice. The soft lead made writing comfortable and smooth and even till today I still enjoy writing with 2B pencils. I am a bit of a pencil afficionado as I also use pencils from these brands: Palomino, Staedtler, Faber-Castell,and more. These made in Japan Hi- uni pencils by Mitsu-Bishi in 2B lead are premium quality pencils. The lead is soft yet does not break easily. Each pencil has a high-quality lacquered finish in a rich dark brown with the brand name embossed in gilt lettering. The end of the pencil is in black with 2B embossed upon it in gold trim. The pencil is light and comfortable to hold and the only minus is that these pencils do not contain erasers at the end. This is no big deal for me because I prefer using a hi-polymer eraser anyway. I think after trying so many pencils, the Blackwings and Hi-Uni's are my favorites, and I recommend them for those who enjoy a darker print in a softer lead.

Bought these in 2B and they are an experience.
I thought I would give these a shot and I am so impressed. Everything about these pencils is classy. It comes in a nice, nostalgic little case and they smell like my childhood. They sharpen even, and the wood is high grade. After trying a many other pencils, their 2B is on the soft side, but the lines are top notch. I wouldn't use the 2B's for everyday writing, but they are a dream to sketch with. If you want an everyday writer, HB is a better option and still has a fantastic line.

The BEST!
I’ve tried them all Staedtler, Palomino, Faber-Castell, Raphael, Tombow etc. Hands down these are my favorite!! I can’t say enough good things about them and while the other ones I mentioned are good too and I like them a lot , these Mitsubishi Hi-Uni’s are in a class of their own.Love them and will definitely be buying more as soon as I run out.

Best Feature: Durability
I got the 2B for sketching, which will give me a nice gradation of dark to light strokes without too much added hand pressure for darks and too much fiddling for a whisper touch in order to get lighter lines. The lead really does last a bit longer than your average pencil and is nicely centered, but honestly, if you don't mind pressing a bit more into the paper to get a darker line, any student would do just as well with a set of Derwents. The pencil doesn't magically make you a better draftsman, it's just better at giving you instant darks. The price point is nicer than a Blackwing, which, in my opinion, would only benefit those who sell professional graphite renderings. Animators use these for the swift smoothness due to the particular graphite compound just as much as they use the Blackwings. But again, if you are studying and sketching, a cheaper brand or even a Ticonderoga number 2 is all you need.

top of the class
I compared the Hi-Uni 2B pencil (from box of 12) with a Stabilo Swann 2B, A Mars Lumograph 2B, and a Faber Castell 2B. They are all top quality pencils and very little separates them. They are all about US$1.40 a pencil. The quality of the softness (B grades are soft, H grades are hard) vary a little. I find the Hi-Uni to be the softest of the four, followed by the Mars Lumograph. The Swann is the hardest, so although all are graded 2B, they do vary - but slightly. They are all very tightly packed, probably pressure proofed so that the lead inside does not break. Nothing is more annoying than having to sharpen a pencil only to find the lead pieces fall out because they are all broken inside. So, in the end, your choice may be purely aesthetics. Swann's red, Mars' blue, Faber castell's green, or the brownish red of Hi-Uni. The box itself may be a factor. Once you figure out how to open the plastic box of the Hi-Uni, it is a pretty good box to carry your pencil - maximum protection for individual pencils.

great point retention
These pencils are the BOMB. Dark lines, great point retention, and the glossy finish feels great in my hand. Very comparable to Tombow Mono pencils, but maybe even just a bit better. I don't draw; I just use these for writing, so take what I say with a grain of salt if you're looking at these for drawing purposes. I will definitely buy these again when this box runs out.
