Oil Recycle Drain Pan, 7 Quart

This drain pan is wonderful, I can use it to drain oil, and then put the cap on it to easily and safely carry it to my used oil barrel without the risk of spilling the used oil. Like most professional mechanics I have used many types of drain pans over the years and this one make it easy to avoid making a mess. It is very low so it will fit into tight places and the funnel stores right in it, so it always stays neat and free of fumbling around. The only addition that I can think of that would make it better is if they had a storage place for the cap when it is removed, to prevent losing it.

This is a great product! You are able to use the attached funnel to drain your oil into. The funnel is attached to the side of the container and when you are ready to drain oil from your vehicle you screw the funnel on to the spot where you see the yellow cap. When you are done draining the oil, you siimply unscrew the funnel, put the yellow cap back on and put the funnel in its place on the side of the container. From there you can hold the oil, about 5-6 quarts, until you can recycle it. The container never leaked. This is a great handy product I recommend to anyone changing oil! I also used it to change transmission fluid.

Does what is says on the box. Wait! It is its own box! Handy for small engine oil changes. The pan is more than ample for any home owners lawnmower or snowblower oil changing needs. Too small for cars. Low profile allows it to slip under low slung engines. Conveniently traps oil with a tight cap for later proper disposal. Wide and shallow funnel provided, clips in to the center of the container.

The Amazon description says it holds six quarts. The stamped information on the bottom of mine says seven quarts. From experience, I'd say it holds well over 6 but not quite 7 quarts. The cap seals nice and tight -- I have no worries about putting it in my trunk (full of oil) to tote it to Pep Boys for oil disposal. (Although I wrap it in a trash bag just in case.) The funnel attaches well and stores away easily, even with oily hands. There's a kind of a four-sided grate over the funnel hole that may stand a chance of catching a washer or drain bolt before it falls in. The grate can also be used to tighten and twist off the funnel. It's made of thick, strong plastic that seems as if will last for a very long time. It is extremely low to the ground, and fits easily both under my Honda and my riding mower. For those people who think the funnel is too small -- I don't share the concern. If your car's drain bolt is more than a foot or so higher than the funnel, perhaps you need to sit the container on a cinder block or something to raise it. Part of my oil change toolkit is a chain like the kind you find on pens at the bank (see attached link). I use it like a plumb line to ensure that the funnel is well under the drain bolt. There is a collector (yellow disc in the middle of the pic) that screws into the corner of the pan (attaches where the small yellow cap is in the pic). Sort of a small radius to catch the oil with but does collect it nicely. No splashing either! Container is large enough for most oil changes (but, best to check your manual to see how much your engine holds first). Only 3 stars because off two reasons. First, there is no vent cap. This causes some uneven pouring when emptying out the used oil. I may try to puncture a very small hole somewhere on the top. I see this as a design flaw since I feel like I shouldn't have to do that. Second, I wish they included a screw on spout to help make it easier and cleaner to pour out the oil. Now, I'll have to spend money for a clip on spout. Even though this is more money than other options sold on Amazon, I would have been willing to pay a bit more if they had these additional features (making it a 7 or 8 gallon container would also be nicer).

I am writing this with much frustration at the quality control of this product. I waited until the riding season was over to do my oil change (motorcycle) so I have had the product for a couple of months until I used it the other day. Everything looked fine at first glance and seemed easy enough to figure out. I screwed on the funnel and let out the oil from my motorcycle. A few seconds later I see oil spreading all over my garage floor. I start to panic but I had no other oil pan since this is the one I bought! I lift it up and there is a hole the size of half a dime maybe on the bottom. Long story short, I had to clean my garage floor for over an hour to get all the oil off the floor and I'm left with this failure of a product. Part of me says (and maybe some of you) "you should have checked to make sure there were no holes on the bottom" OH really captain hindsight!? When I get a new product that has the specific funtion of avoiding spills and containing liquids, that is the LAST thing I expect. I am going to get in contact with the manufacturer as well as try to update this post with a picture. I would either like my money back or a replacement unit. I understand there is always a small percentage of defects in a production line, but it really sucks when it happens to you.

I considered writing straight to the company but figured public praise may lead to more units sold, which is probably better for them anyway. I've been searching for this for a long time. I had a blitz model years ago but **** canned it not long after because it leaked. I then tried depending on regular oil pans, but they were always either too cheaply made or leaked all over the place while pouring. I wanted to try the rhino gear variant, but it looked worse than the blitz, with the cap free spinning in the store. I ended up going with the rhino gear jug because I thought that was perfect, but it was a hair too tall to fit under my truck and the oil pan transfer, again, was just messy. I thought there had to be a better solution and just went looking for regular 1.5gal jugs in stores, but they were all too tall. Came here, and opted to give this company a shot, and wow, what a big difference. I did the water test and she's rock solid. Quality is what I expect, and I feel like this company takes pride in their product. I can't speak to the over-flow issue. I have a fumoto drain valve (not trying to plug them or anything) which makes this a non-issue due to a slower more controlled flow. Finally found a good piece of gear that I can have a quick, painless, and'messless' oil change!

I bought this a few months back to do an oil change on my lifted 2011 Wrangler. This Oil drain pan works Ok, but the screw on funnel on the side is totally awkward to use. When you inevitably over-shoot the funnel with your engine oil, the center area that is designed to hold the funnel for storage fills up with oil. It's a big pain to clean it up. I've used pans in the past that use the center of the pan to catch the oil as a built in funnel, and those seem to work much better. I wouldn't recommend this for an experienced mechanic that has multiple personal cars to change oil on every few months, because it can be so messy. I like to keep my garage floor and tools clean, and this thing makes a mess when you aren't lined up perfectly. Stick with something with a center drain.

It's low enough not to get in the way of removing the oil pan drain bolt, though I would have preferred if the body of the container opened directly like my previous one, instead of having to screw on the funnel. On the other hand the advantage of this one is that oil cannot ever leak out of the conainer after you finish. I'm happy with it.

This thing confuses me. Because the opening, as indicated by the green lid, is atypical. If you cannot tell from the pictures, the opens parallel to the ground when the pan is placed upright. This means when the pan is laid down horizontally, the opening then open perpendicularly upwards. Now I understand the opening is to facilitate the attachment of the funnel. And this "laid down" setup allows you to slide the pan underneath the car. But, this makes for incredibly awkward pouring. As emptying the drain pan requires that you hold it with its large flat face facing down to the ground. You essentially have to empty it like a pan. Which defeats the purpose of making it kind of like a canister you can tote around right? Like if you were going to make it pour our like a pan instead of a bottle, in an upright position, why not add another handle to the bottom side so it's easier to hold and pour? I don't understand why they made it this way. I bought a 10 dollar pan from canadian tire that was miles simpler. It didn't try to be a upright container and in doing so it was just much better of a tool. It just had a tea spout that pointed down on the side with two handles on either side of the pan that you can hold. That canadian tire pan also had a larger capacity, was lighter when empty and had a lower clearance (because with the funnel attached this Wedco pan actually sticks up quite a bit off the ground). Even if you wanted to store the liquids you pulled from this, why not get another vessel? This Wedco pan can't actually store that much liquid. I was doing a coolant flush on my SX4 and this thing couldn't even hold all the liquid from the cooling system (~6Litres). So it really just doesn't make too much sense for me. I will say that this thing is made of pretty hardy plastic. The parts of it all come together nicely and all of it works well (minus what I mentioned earlier). But I think you need to be really looking for this to find it great. For my purposes, i.e. changing car fluids, this was beyond stupid to have. It made the process more difficult. But if you are someone who is looking to catch liquid and store it and tote it around when you lack other vessels for storing liquid, than this will definitely meet your expectations. Regardless just be careful when you buy.
