GREAT value, but perhaps not the best Cloth Diaper out there
It was a hard debate whether to give these 4 or 5 stars. I went with 5 stars because for the price, these are my favorite cloth diapers and will be my go-to diapers if I need to order more, but they are not what I would consider to be the best.Backstory: I cloth diapered my first child using a combination of BumGenius All-in-Ones, FuzziBunz Pocket Diapers (Seconds), and I had 2 BumGenius Freetimes. I bought a nice recommended, organic detergent to wash them in and in a short time, my baby had ammonia burns on his bottom. We have EXTREMELY hard water and they weren't getting clean enough. A google search gave me multiple sources recommending to use Tide Original Powder to wash them in and although it voided the warranties, to me using Tide was a no brainer when it came to ammonia burns on my baby's bottom. Additionally, we live in Northeast Ohio which made hanging diapers out to dry in the winter impossible. The BumGenius All-in-Ones (my favorites) took forever to line dry (especially indoors) which resulted in us having to tumble dry them on low. Between the Tide, the hard water, and putting them in the dryer, our diapers lasted 2 years. The PUL was peeling and efforts to re-waterproof them failed (see attached picture). When I was pregnant with my second child, I looked into new cloth diapers because the cost savings and environmental impact will always be worth it to me to cloth diaper. I didn't want to spend the roughly $20 per diaper for the BumGenius diapers, so with these averaging out to around $5 a diaper, I took a chance. I bought 3 packs of 6 - costing me roughly $90 and I have a great rotation of diapers and only have to wash them every few days. I've been using them for 6 months with my second born and I couldn't be happier!!!First of all, I've always struggled with the absorbency issue with cloth diapers (although, side note, I have had WAY less poop blowouts in cloth than when we use disposables when we're on trips away from home - another perk of cloth diapers!). No cloth diaper is as absorbent as a disposable so you need to be prepared to change diapers more frequently. BumGenius were my favorite because their PUL is folded over onto the waist tabs, along with the top edges on the front and back which is helpful in preventing leaks (see uploaded photos for comparisons). The snaps are FANTASTIC for sizing. I hated the drying time with the All-in-Ones - even out on the line they didn't dry as quickly. The Freetimes dried more quickly, but I didn't find them to be as absorbent. I thought I would hate stuffing the inserts into the FuzziBunz pockets, but stuffing wasn't bad at all. What I disliked about the Fuzzibunz is that you had to adjust the elastic on the leg holes and the waist to size the diapers. Ugh! It was a huge pain and I didn't feel they were as absorbent. So for the AlvaBaby Diapers to have the snaps for sizing and a GREAT price - I was sold. A major perk is that I can hang these diapers up in my dark, cold, below ground basement during winter in Northeast Ohio and they dry overnight - no more having to use the dryer which gives me hope that they may last longer than 2 years. I still wash them in Tide and I wash the shells in warm water, extra rinse, heavy soil setting and I wash the inserts separately - also in Tide, hot water, extra rinse, heavy soil setting.Leaks do happen with the AlvaBaby diapers. If you look at the uploaded pictures of the one on Baby, anywhere the white, inner lining is showing is a potential leak spot where it touches Baby's clothing. I really try to make sure that fleece lining is tucked inside the diaper, which helps to minimize leaking. Also, several of the AlvaBaby diapers have a velvety/velour type cover which is more prone to leaks than the more "plasticy" covers because they absorb moisture from the inside liner too (see the cow print cover vs. plain blue photo). The styles and colors available are really adorable and I've gotten a lot of compliments. Sorry for the lengthy review, but all in all, these are a GREAT value in cloth diapering and I would absolutely buy them again and recommend them to anyone.

The best at preventing blowouts in washable diapers!
I've tried a few brands of washable diapers, and these have been by far the best. They are well made, easy to adjust, and the only brand I've tried that hasn't leaked poop out of the leg holes. To top it off, they come in the most adorable designs.

Edit: Tried them out, definitely ordering more!
Edit: These are better for baby's bum than the prefolds I was using. The moisture wicking is fantastic. I am using these consistently overnight and for naps (when most prone to leakage) and have ordered another pack. 5 stars.I've been using cloth diapers for 11 years on 5 babies. I started with Flip covers and Gerber prefolds as inserts (LOVED the Flip covers but haven't been able to find them again), more recently purchased Babygoal covers and OsoCozy prefolds as inserts. I don't think it's possible to get a leak-proof diaper, given the types of blowouts we've had over the years. I have been hesitant to try the pocket style diaper, since I tried a couple of all-in-ones with my first baby that had sewn-on inserts, and they were such a mess to take care of. But I wanted to give these a try because of the high rating and frequency of purchase on Amazon. These ALVABABY covers are lacking the tight double gusset I have appreciated with the Babygoal covers, but they are easy to use for my 11yo who stays home to babysit, once I have them pre-stuffed and ready for him. We have not experienced a blowout yet, but like I said, I don't think leak-proof is possible given the nature of some blowouts! They fit pretty well on my 4mo 14lb baby (pictured), a little loose but not too much, and since we didn't use them right away I wonder if they would have been a tight-enough fit for her as a newborn. I'm finding that I can change less frequently if each diaper is double-stuffed (2 inserts instead of 1); usually I'm changing on the hour to prevent diaper rash. There was mild pilling on the inside of the diaper cover after the 2nd wash. I use Simply Done Lavender plant-based laundry detergent, and the first poops on these diapers washed away rather well. (FYI I used to use Oxyclean regularly with my diaper loads, but I think it destroyed a batch of my OsoCozy prefolds, and I don't find it necessary to get them clean.) I hang dry the covers as much as possible, but these also turned out fine in the dryer (tag says tumble dry on low heat).Overall, I'm going to work with them for another month and see if I'd like to get more, for a couple of reasons: for ease of use for my son and other babysitters, as they go on and off just as easily as disposables. And I'd like to test them for overnight use - in the past, our babies have gotten rashes overnight with cloth, so we use disposables overnight. These diapers fit the budget and are beautiful - I want to love them - but for now, a sold 4 out of 5 stars. Happy to update my review if I get a chance w/ 5 kids home for the summer !!

Great for First Child... Not Beyond
So, these diapers were gifted to us 6 years ago for my first child. They were AMAZING. I also loved the Grovia velcro diapers while the velcro lasted for ease of use and absorbancy. HOWEVER, the elastic on these Alva diapers is completely shot in almost all of these diapers now for my second child. I replaced the elastic at the back waist, and that worked until the diapers started leaking out around the legs because the leg elastic is shot as well. I don't want to bother replacing all of that elastic too, and at $4.50 a diaper (I got these when they were on sale), I just bought some more for my second child.I LOVE new cloth diapers. They are wonderful and colorful, fun, and exciting... and of course, they don't leak at all. I wash all my diapers through three cycles (rinse, hot wash with soap, rinse) and I line dry EVERY time. So, for the elastic to make it through one child only is kind of a disappointment. My SIL used Grovia through two of her children and halfway through her third child before she complained about them leaking (and she dried them in the drier sometimes). BUT for the cost of these, they are a good purchase from a financial standpoint. Not that great for the environment if you have to keep buying new ones for each child though....P.S. The inserts are still functional (although not as soft, but that doens't matter since they aren't touching the baby), just the elastic on the shells is shot.
