Insightful and Fully loaded with variety of problems . Best PRACTICE book
5lb Manhattan GRE practice book is an elaborate compilation of all possible types of questions set that might appear during the GRE test. it prepares you for a wide range of problems. It took me about 2 months to almost every problem in the book . If you have a lot of preparation time ahead of the test this is a must try. However this book does not contain any introduction to the concepts , so the best way to approach is to make yourself familiar with : Geometry, Algebra, and vocabulary and reasoning, Once you have thoroughly understood the concepts, methods, formulae then go ahead and perfect yourself with this book. 5lb helps to step up by giving you ample questions to solve in a minute. Speed is very essential for GRE. Do it fast and Do it right is the secret for 315+ score and there is no other book better than this.Verbal is not my favourite in this book. If you have masters the vocabulary then this is might have good exercise. But for a person like me where verbal is a weak subject this book does not add any value as most of the time I was just doing guess work than learning. One more good thing is that after you purchase this book you get activation code to access lot of resources from the manhattan website. I wish I had seen this much ahead to of my test date. Thier resources include typical classroom videos and practice papers. Finally my 2 cents for those who are preparing for GRE is that it is very important to read the ETS book from the makers themselves. Practice Practice and Practice as time is critical. Make Cheat Sheet on the tips and tricks and shortcut formulae. For Verbal Read a lot of stuff, and include those new words into your "vocabulary list" . Good luck to all the test takers.

If you are serious about the GRE, get this book
I just took the GRE the other day, and of all the study tools that I used (including online programs and other books), I found this book to be the single most helpful in my studies. The book is laid out really simply-- it starts with a practice test for the verbal and math sections, and then is filled with chapter after chapter covering an individual topic in either the quantitative or verbal sections. Each section has dozens of GRE type problems with the answers very well explained. The book then finishes with sample essays and explanations for the two essays required for the GRE.Other study tools have you only read about what you need to know on the GRE, in terms of equations you need to know and what to keep in mind for the essays and so forth. While helpful, the ability to actually practice GRE problems one after another and see where I was getting hung up on in the solutions was immeasurably helpful. As well, I appreciated how this book didn't just say what components should be included in the two GRE essays but rather included many sample GRE essays written by Manhattan prep instructors. Just a caveat- actually working through the GRE problems in the book takes a very long time, particularly that the book is over 1,000 pages long (I skipped around to sections I thought I needed work on). The first page of the book states "GRE success lies in consistent performance", which I totally agree with. But I think everyone understands that the GRE is a test that needs some time to study for. When planning to take the GRE I highly recommend this book and working through the problems and possibly getting another book that will be more detailed as to what equations/specific words you need to know. However, if you go through the book the equations/words you need to know will be detailed in the solutions. Manhattan prep also offers (for a price), six practice GRE tests. I think practice GRE tests are very helpful, and it really is necessary to take at least one practice test before taking the real test. Manhattan prep really has something good going on here.

This workbook will let you know if you are serious or not.
I already have an M.A. but was considering going back to school for a second one in order to expand my skills and knowledge. One of the first challenges I would have to face, aside from trying to get academic letters of recommendation (it's been over 10 years since I graduated), was to retake the GRE (just about every school that I was looking into required fresh GRE scores if it had been more than five years since it was last taken).A brief scan through Amazon revealed that there is quite a market for GRE prep books, but the "5 lb Book of GRE Practice Problems" looked most appealing and was therefore the one I ordered. My god, when that behemoth arrived I was left standing at my mailbox with jaw open; the thing is exactly what it claims to be--a FIVE POUND book of Math and Verbal Diagnostic Tests! I immediately began to question whether or not retaking the GRE and going back to grad school are what I really wanted to do. To say I was intimidated is an understatement.Although I am still in uncertainty about returning to school, I have been enjoying going through the practice examples and "polishing up" my skills in these subjects. Math is a lot harder to do after more than a decade of not even thinking about them too much. The verbal diagnostic questions are explained fairly well, but I still found myself wishing some of the math problems made better sense. I think most of this is just me and my lack of skills in the subject, but like getting back on a bicycle after a long hiatus, it's all starting to come back to me.This book will give you a LOT of practice, if that's what you are looking for. My view is that you cannot practice enough!

One of the best GRE books
I had about a month to prepare for my GREs and relied entirely on this book and the ETS official guide. By working through those two books I got above 320 on my first go.The drills in this book were very good, both math and verbal. Every single question not only has the answer but a detailed explanation which was incredibly helpful. The vocab list was comprehensive as well. 10/10 I definitely reccomend it

MUST HAVE FOR GRE QUANT
I am a Biology student, irrespective of everything else, this book has helped me get a good quant score, and this coming from a person who left mathematics after tenth grade (i.e. doing maths after a gap of nine years)! BTW I got 156/170 which is good enough for a first attempt and 15 days solid preparation from this book (8-10 hours a day). I had very little time to prepare, and thank Goodness I researched on the internet and zeroed in on this one. You may have already checked the layout and contents of this book on other websites. Nevertheless, here's an overview. It has chapter-wise breakdown of the topics for Verbal and Quant. As I was weaker in quant than verbal, I'll focus on the quant. The questions start from easiest--> easy--> medium--> difficult---> tough. I recommend that you take the test at the beginning that analyzes your weak spots, it's very helpful. I didn't even complete 2-3 of the chapters and couldn't manage the time very well, inspite of which this book provided a solid foundation to get the score. You won't regret buying it.

Book is great. Kindle version is glitchy.
I decided to get the Kindle version of this book to save paper and money...but I find it very glitchy. The book itself is great and very helpful but I am disappointed that the format is so outdated and actually cuts off sections of text and is overall quite distracting when trying to study.

Good starting point but not completely enough
It provides a wonderful platform to start one's GRE prep. But it is just that. If you want top scores, I suggest you use alternate resources after completing this. The level of difficulty offered by this book is well beneath that of the actual GRE exam
