Hello, Yes This will work on polished aluminum as long as you prepare it correctly before you paint.

Q: Will this work on machined rim parts?

I dont think so works good on chrome its like a tint

Q: Can this be removed without damaging the chrome underneath?

Yes just lacquer thinner to be safe and if that doesn’t work grab some paint stipper like aircraft remover.
