S.O.L. Survive Outdoors Longer Rescue Flash Mirror, 0140-1003

This mirror works well. It's light enough for even the most weight conscious hiker to carry. I have two of the S.O.L. mirrors and they are slightly different. One has a simple mesh sighting aperture. The other has a series of holes in a circle around the aperture. In my opinion, the simple mesh is noticeably easier to use. The pictures in the product description show both types of sighting apertures. I don't know which one you will get if you order one. I also have one of the glass mil spec signaling mirrors that is easy to use and very effective (it has the mesh sighting aperture) but being glass it's more breakable and considerably heavier. I would recommend this mirror but strongly favor the mesh aperture.

Effective emergency mirror. Small but much better than some glass mirrors costing more. This one has a retro-reflector aiming device that WORKS. Much of the bargain price market is dominated by seemingly high quality glass mirrors that appear to be good until you actually try to use them. Many claim to have retro-reflectors that create the necessary bright spot for aiming, but they don't! If you can't afford the price or weight of a genuine modern military glass signal mirror in either 5"x3" or 3"x2", this is your next best bet. Don't bet your life on an inferior mirror that cannot be aimed with accuracy. You want to be sure that your rescuer will see your flash.

I took this mirror out on a little hike the other day to try it out. It's easy enough to use, but the little sight hole in the middle you use to aim at things is not crystal clear and gets a bit fuzzy with certain angles of light. After about a 2-mile hike stored loose in my pocket with my phone and another mirror, I also noticed that there are a multitude of fine scratches all over it. I'd suggest keeping it in a cloth bag or sock or the like to prevent scratches if you're packing this. On close inspection, the mirror seems to be almost (but not quite) perfectly flat; it ever-so-slightly distorts straight lines when used as a regular mirror. I still plan to keep this in my emergency kit, but will use another mirror for my backpacking/camping kit.

Only four stars because it ought to be larger in size. Anyway, it is light weight, fits in my hiking bag. If I ever need it, I hope the mirror is large enough to be seen by an aircraft or a hiker above my location.

I was looking for one of these to keep in my wallet. This is just too thick. I’ll go back to the mini SOL for my wallet. It’s thick too, and has less mirror area. It takes up less room.

This is a decent mirror but don't expect it to be something that's not pictured. I read one of the other reviewer's comments and chose this item over a couple others because his review made me believe this one came with a protective case. It does not. It seems to be a decent, relatively modestly priced mirror - certainly nothing wrong with it - but no protective case. As far as I'm concerned all of these mirrors are overpriced for what they are, but how much would a person who is actually lost in the woods pay for one if it were available then? A lot, I expect.Cheers!

This is a great signal mirror! Its compact and is super clean- reflects brilliantly. However, the material does scratch easily which means if this is not in your wallet or if it's not wrapped while being stored, It will lose reflective capability over time if damaged. It will still work quite well even if slightly scratched but just saying...I find it totally acceptable and comes in handy for that additional method for rescue. Its a great item and everyone should have one in their EDC/GetHome or BOB just in case as it takes up minimal real estate. Would buy it again!

This thing is so handy and light. I carry it with me all of the time in a little kit on my belt. It is so handy having a lightweight mirror. I mainly use it for personal grooming and when I travel, it allows me to shave in the shower which I enjoy doing. I'm actually buying my second one so that I can keep one in the shower and one in my kit. It's held up well. I haven't needed to signal anyone for emergency reasons but knowing that I can is an added benefit and I've taken it on the couple camping/hiking trips I've taken since buying it. It weighs next to nothing.

Good quality and value for money

A good quality signal mirror perfect for the outdoors. I mainly use mine for fitting my contact lenses when i'm out hiking but I like that it has the signalling features too. I dropped a star because I find the price a little on the expensive side for what you're getting here; it would have been perfect at the £7 to £8 mark.

Great mirror and well made, tested with my scouts at the weekend on our survival skills camp. worked well once your have practiced how to use it. a must have when you are out in the countryside.

I got this and I'm very happy with it and the size of it.But before you go off anywhere I would pratice with the signal mirror so you know how it works.
