Since ESBIT is both immediate heat source and fire starter, I collect dried roots, stems & burnable debris that I find while walking (in all terrain) to provide the heat & duration desired. Rubbing soap on the bottom of the pot prior means easier cleanup. The round Coghlan style fuel can be stored in electrolyte tab (NUUN style) cannisters to isolate odor. Heat conservation is key for this fuel. Water or pre-soaked food carried next to your body enters the cooking pot already warm & using a pot LID are two examples. Preventing convective heat loss due to wind passing through the stove is another. Stacking rocks around the stove, setting up in a depression, & using carbon felt or aluminum foil for wind shielding are some methods used. Lighting in high wind can be eased by using a plasma lighter, cotton/vaseline balls, jute twine char cloth & w/ aforementioned breaks help too. ESBIT is ZEN - Conservation of energy &Freedom. The media could not be loaded. These pellets were super well packaged, appear to be high quality, and worked perfectly in our antique steam engine. Each tablet burned for almost exactly 5 minutes and the flame was super hot until the very end. It took two tabs to get the engine up to temp and it ran for a full 5 minutes on the 3rd.The ONLY warning I have is DO NOT use indoors or confined spaces. They do produce fumes and my asthmatic wife did not react well to the smell. It actually gave me a headache as well. I know to burn them outside next time.

I have several steam engines that run off these pellets and the ones I had been using started crumbling because of age. These are nice and fresh they light easily they last quite a while and just one of the few places I can just order the pellets without having to order three other things. What worth the money

I was hesitant to buy this product because of reviews about the smell, but I haven’t smelled anything until after it’s burned and I didn’t find it that bad. It does take a long time to boil water compared to alcohol, but I do appreciate that it’s safer and easier to extinguish.

My Esbits are my favorite little camp stoves, these fuel tables fit nicely. I even use an Esbit to warm up tent .

Used with pocket folding stove. Fuel fits right into stove when folded up. Fuel is actually heavier than the stove. If you place a small piece of aluminum foil on bottom of stove then the cube on the top, clean up is easier. Leaves some residue on bottom of pan. Once home, cleaned up pot with backing soda paste, easy. One Cube burn time ~ 14 minutes with the folding wind screen. If your trying to heat up a couple items with one start of the cube, small sticks can be added to extend the burn time with the folding stove. If it is raining out, the burn time of one cube is enough to assist with lighting wood. I try to conserve these cubes when possible. These cubes are also excellent for starting larger fire. Transports well because of size. Lights fairly easily. Made a small bag from rip stop material to transport items in stove with small piece of foil. Works well.
