Excellent! Makes older tools new again!
This adaptor is fantastic. Fits perfectly, snug, and tight. Doesn't wiggle around, won't come loose. Now you can use new generation of batteries on older tools that are perfectly fine, so you don't have to retire older tools or try to keep different battery types around. DEFINITELY WORTH THE COST! More pricey than the generics out there, but probably much better quality and much tighter fit also.

A Cost-Effective Upgrade
I purchased the DEWALT 18v to 20v Adapter (DCA1820) to breathe new life into my trusty old 18v Dewalt Jigsaw, and here's my take:Fit and Compatibility:The adapter fit my 18v tool like a glove. There was no fuss or need for any modifications. It snapped into place securely, ensuring that my jigsaw could now benefit from the newer 20v lithium-ion batteries.Performance:Over the past few months, this adapter has performed flawlessly. There's been no noticeable power loss or any issues with battery life. It maintains the charge well, and the jigsaw operates just as effectively as it did with its original battery setup.Value for Money:Now, regarding the price - yes, it does feel a bit steep for what essentially is a piece of molded plastic with some electrical contacts. However, when you weigh it against the cost of purchasing an entirely new tool or a set of batteries specific to the 18v platform, this adapter comes out as a clear winner in terms of cost savings.

works pretty well
this is the second one of these i have purchased. they work really well, and there are only a couple of things that you can't use with them. there are a few batteries that are not compatible, and there are a couple of tools that are not compatible. luckily, i only have one tool that can't be used. i'll just have to keep a couple of NiCd batteries around for that. there is one anomaly that i have noticed. on some work lights, the output is not steady. it dims a little, for a very short time, at constant intervals. i suspect it is a combination of circuitry in the adapter and the type of bulb in the work light (not LED). in any case, it's a great way to use new batteries on old tools.

Adapter for one Tool
Purchased this item to run my Dewalt DW077KD Rotary Laser. The 18 Volt battery that came with the unit will no longer hold a charge and I was in the market for a replacement 18 volt battery when I came across this adapter. All of my Dewalt tools are already 20 Volt so the thought of buying an 18 volt battery to run one tool did not sit well with me. I searched around the internet to see if this adapter was compatible with my rotary laser after reading that this adapter was currently compatible with approximately 90% of Dewalt's 18 Volt line. I could not confirm if this unit was actually compatible with my unit so I took a chance and bought it anyway. I am glad that I did because the directions say it is compatible with all Dewalt Rotary laser levels, however if you use this unit on a DW079KD or DW074KD you won't be able to shut the door on the unit which I guess makes the unit water resistant. I tried this unit out with all of my Dewalt Batteries and with each battery the unit worked flawlessly. I have every Dewalt battery in the 20 Volt line, except the new Bluetooth batteries. According to the directions this unit will not work with any of the 18 Volt line of Dewalt work lights or nailers so I tried it with the Dewalt DCL061 18/20 Volt combo work light and the light did not work with this adapter. It flickered once and then went out. Once I removed the adapter and used just the battery the light worked perfectly.I gave it 4 stars because as other reviews have mentioned it is a bit difficult to remove the adapter from units. You actually have to press the release buttons towards the top of the unit as opposed to the bottom and sometimes space is limited and getting your fingers in the tight places is a bit tricky. Overall, I am glad Dewalt came out with this adapter because as I mentioned earlier the thought of buying a new 18 volt battery for one tool did not sit well with me but now that I have this adapter I have access to my complete set of 20 volt batteries.

Makes lights flicker, can't install largest batteries
Durable, well-made adapter with a few caveats:1) The active electronics in this adapter generate a once-per-second flicker on 18V worklights, e.g. the DW919, using either an LED bulb or the original Xenon bulb. Off-brand copycat adapters with only wires in them do not flicker.1a) Remove your battery from this adapter during storage to prevent the adapter electronics from slowly discharging your battery.2) The 2 tabs you see protruding forward PREVENT installation of the following batteries: 5Ah PowerStack DCBP520, 6Ah XR DCB206, 8Ah XR DCB208, 10Ah XR DCB210. The largest batteries that may install on this adapter are the smaller XR's: 5Ah DCB205 and 4Ah DCB204.2a) The 2 large 'compact' batteries 4Ah DCB240 / 3Ah DCB230 have a large footprint which extends forward 0.7" further than other batteries and could interfere on a circular saw, e.g. DC390.2b) The XR batteries that do fit this adapter (4Ah DCB204 and 5Ah DCB205) reduce max cut depth on the DC390 circular saw from 2-1/8" to 1-7/8" for carbide-tipped blade. Bevel cuts above 22 degrees are unaffected as the battery rocks up out of the way - so it can still 45 dimensional 2" lumber.3) As others have stated, the first time clicking this adapter into a tool it is VERY stiff, and nearly impossible to remove - you need to start to disengage one side, and hold that side partially open while disengaging the other side... It gets dramatically easier after a few install / removal cycles.
