Can the shields be removed so the bearings can be cleaned/serviced?

Yes but I don't recommend removing them. It's super hard to snap back in place.

Are these slow on a skateboard?

These are fast on a skateboard or roller skates. Note that this is for a 16 pack, or enough for 8 wheels. You could use 1 of these to replace 2 skateboards worth of bearings. Really good.

I have been using them for 2 years now, through rain and all and they still spin excellently. I do clean them thoroughly from time to time but they are really good bearings. Love them. Easy to take apart to clean as well. They spin for so long too and are smooth
