Dr Bob and Bill W. Speak: AA's Cofounders Tell Their Stories Paperback – November 6, 2012

This is a very inspiring work. The 12 step program is a gift of the Higher Power to humankind, and one sees the humility of Dr. Bob and Bill W. in acknowledging it is not their work but a power that comes from outside themselves. In the early days of AA the members struggled to discern the next step forward. Time has shown that those steps were solid and towards love and service to all who suffer from addictions. The Grace from a loving Higher Power is still working through those steps.This book includes so many details of what was happening behind the scenes as the founders worked it out. One can read very clearly how their motivation was one of love and service "in the Fellowship of the Spirit" as we "trudge the Road of Happy Destiny". It is a great book. I have read parts of it many times. Michael Fitzpatrick has done a wonderful service in searching out and bringing to us the speeches, letters and other writings of not just Dr. Bob and Bill W., but some of the other early pioneers of AA. It may not be conference approved literature since it is published by Hazelden, but it does contain the spirit of the founders since it is reveals their own words.

Michael Fitzpatrick has complied likely the best yet book on the cofounders of Alcoholics Anonymous. So much has been written on these two men and the organization they founded but nothing that touches the subject "in their own words". The recorded portion for listening is a great added bonus. Highly recommend whether you are in AA, know someone in AA or just want to read an inspiring tale of two of the 20th centuries most interesting men.

I love this book and how it uses the audio not to listen to the entire speeches but just enough to imagine hearing it live. I also find the letters back and forth from Bill and Bob very interesting. Anyone interested in the history of AA will enjoy this book.

Listening to these flawed men who learned from their struggles how to help millions of other people from all backgrounds all over the world inspired me. It is one thing to read their words, it is quite another to hear them.

The founders of AA were given a great (some say supernatural) wisdom about how to formulate a program whereby alcoholics help other alcoholics to stay sober and battle the temptations and emotional pain they suffer. Any leader of people would benefit from reading their words.

The manner of relaying the story is very dry and hard to continue to read as it jumps around.

To hear how it all came together. And to read the transcripts from Dr. Bob about the true orgins of the big book. Nice to know that It was started with the Bible.
