I dropped a fishhook into my cylinder (yes a magnet can pick it up). Will this be able to get it? I'm worried about not being able to orient it well

Dropping a fish hook into a cylinder (engine, tube, etc.?) the magnetic end has a very bendable soft wire with the magnet attached to the end and its very small round end should be able to lift it out. As far as orienting it to fit out of the hole, that may take several tries. You might have a second person hold a flash light and you hold a thin plastic knitting needle with a flattened end in one hand to help orient the hook to the hole. If there is room you might add a mechanical fingers instead of the needle to help grasp the hook while the magnet holds it. Either way, I've had a great luck fishing out small items from some very tight spots with the use of the magnet #07229.

Joyce I bought this for its ability to access hard areas. This is a very strong magnet capable of lift a medium size wrench. For its size I am very impressed with its strength. I had bigger ones from sears that did not have the power this one has. For the money I totally recommend it as a mechanic and one whom uses it weekly.

I dropped a gold charm in my car will it pick that up?

You can not pick up gold with magnets but you can always try.
