Lee PrecisionV LTD 3 Die Set.458 Socom

Warning: Does not crimp cartidge.
The seating dies does not crimp. The picture is not what you get in the package. This is the first die *set* I have gotten from Lee/Hornady/RCBS that does not crimp. I have about a dozen die sets. The picture shows a crimping die, but per the description and what is actually included, is a neck expander/flow through powder charging die. The .458 SOCOM is new to me and I certainly have a lot to learn.Be generous with your case lube or your case will stick in the re-sizer. I cannot stress this enough. The full length sizing and de-capping die works great as long as your cases are almost dripping with lube. Neck expander/flow-thru charging dies works as expected. Seating die works great, but does not crimp. I am glad I started with 5 cases (6, but one was destroyed due to not having enough case lube) since I have no way to crimp them yet. I did purchase the .458 SOCOM factory crimp die from Lee, but it does not work (see my review, it will be updated once my replacement comes in).

Price is right and it does the job.
The caliber I'm working with is .458 SOCOM, so I'm not expecting match accuracy. Let's face it...this is a hammer, not a screwdriver. Having said that, I prefer to work with Redding dies for accuracy, but since I'm not loading for accuracy, I thought I'd save myself some money and get these inexpensive Lee dies. To say "inexpensive" does not mean "cheap". These dies are well crafted, and does the job. My only criticism is that the seating plug leaves rings on my bullet heads. I ordered custom seating plugs from Lee, but rings are still evident. The rings don't effect performance, so I can live with that. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

Under sized
Have had very good experience with all Lee products except this one product. 458 SOCOM sizing die was way undersized. Every case both fired and new would not insert more than halfway and became stuck. Returned and ordered Hornady which worked perfect. I still order Lee products but this one item didn't meet specs.

Well They Work!
Excellent dies that do exactly what they are supposed to do! The .458 SOCOM is surprisingly easy to load, and these dies are very high quality and help me to turn out nice-looking, functional ammunition. It all chambered and functioned perfectly through my side-action (straight-pull bolt action) "BAR-15" (Bolt Action Rifle-15)!I would, and will buy Lee Dies again...actually I already did! I bought the Lee Factory Crimp die for .458 SOCOM!

Big bore fun for less.
.458 factory ammo is expensive. Ordered these dies with factory crimp die and some brass instead. Have only shot my hand loads. Consistent velocities on the chronograph and tight groups. As good as all of the Lee dies I have. Big bore AR fun for less $! Lots of bullet choices in .458 make for a lot of handloading possibilities. Used these on 300 grain HP and ballistic tip so far, should work fine for the heavier weight bullets as well.

Not as pictured. No factory crimping die.
Package arrived quickly but poorly packed. Plastic box was open inside Amazon packing and parts left rolling around inside. Parts received DO NOT match pictured or described product. I guess I can buy a separate crimping die for another $18, which makes this not such a good deal. Would have bought the slightly more expensive dies...would have been cheaper in the long run.

Avoid these.
I use Lee for most of my calibers and I've never had a problem until these. There's something wrong with them, even after adjusting the seating die the stem is almost all the way out. The sizing die, cases sized and then dropped in chamber were very tight almost not fitting. I still use Lee dies for 38/357/9/40/45/5.56 no problems. These just didn't work out ended up in the trash

Ok but if you aren’t loading round nose bullets there are better options
The bullet seater will leave a nasty impression in any spire/pointed bullets, it is meant for round nose - there are instructions for taking it apart and grinding it so it won’t leave the impression- I would just buy Redding’s set if I had it to do over.
