Hunza Organic Cranberry Beans (2 lbs)

These are so delicious, rich and nutty, really fresh and so easy to make. The best dried beans we ever had. Dried beans have a much shorter shelf life than we suppose. As beans age, they go past the point where they can be cooked and retain their shape and texture. Many get crumbly before they get soft. These beans cook up beautifully. My recipe: Rinse 1 cup of beans and soak overnight with 5 cups of water. Drain and rinse again. Put beans in a 2.5 quart pan, cover with 3 cups cold water. Add 2 T olive oil, 1/2 tsp salt, 3-4 fresh sage sprigs, and two large, peeled garlic cloves left whole. Bring to boil and then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook covered at a low simmer for about 30-40 minutes till the beans are soft but not mushy. Check frequently and add a bit of cold water if they get too dry. Adjust salt and pepper; mash garlic into the remaining cooking liquid. If too much liquid remains, cook a bit longer uncovered till a creamy sauce remains. Enjoy!

I have come to really love cranberry dried beans even more than most other kinds. And I am not sure what it is about the Hunza brand, but these beans cook up perfectly in my Instant Pot, and the taste and texture is superior. Of course the fact that they are organic is a definite plus. I will continue to purchase them when they are available.

why are beans so hard to find now?? They are a bit $$ but great quality and making your own beans is cheaper then cans. Great flavor

The beans are great tasting, with a great texture, and easy to cook to get right, though I was surprised to see quite a few red beams in the packet.

I enjoyed these beans, but I was expecting something new. "Sweet" they say, but to me they taste exactly like pinto beans, but cost a lot more. They are slightly larger than pinto beans when cooked. Otherwise there doesn't seem to be any different.
