Kenwood eXcelon DNN992 6.95 Inch Touchscreen Navigation Receiver

I love it

Start up is a little slow and response time for some of the features takes a few seconds as well...Otherwise a nice navigation/stereo unit.

I placed too much faith in the Kenwood name and discounted what others had written in their reviews of this head unit. It took around 40 seconds to boot. The interface is cumbersome on a whole new level. I'm an IT professional by trade and it took all I had and a few hours of tinkering around in order to get logged into the Garmin/Kenwood update site only to find out that if you want to update the maps that you have to pay (from my recollection) around $50-60/yr for updates. And it showed up being two years out of date. The site requires you to have a plug-in which does not work on a 64-bit browser. Even when trying it on a 32-bit browser, the plug-in stated it was only compatible with Internet Exploder. The sound quality of the unit was awesome. EQ controls allowed you to make great adjustments. I was pleased with the built-in amp and quality of sound it had with my factory Infinity speaker system. Still not enough for me to want to keep it. Heed the warnings, I would not recommend this unit.

They could've done better job with this unit.. I'm a fan of Kenwood...but thinking of making a change...it's takes to long to turn on...sometimes the back up camera won't work... disappointed of this unit... You have to logging every time you turn on the unit...

Had the unit less than a year and it stopped booting up a few months ago. Kendwood said to send it in for repairs. Two months later I'm told the part is on backorder now and I need to wait "at least another month or more" for the part. As of this morning I'm now told Kenwood won't just replace my unit but that I have to wait for the parts. So I have no radio for how ever long they plan to keep it hostage.

To be up front. I did not purchase the unit on Amazon. For the most part, this seems to be a good receiver. It has many features, many of which I will probably never use. The biggest issue I have experienced is with the Navigation aspect of these Kenwood units. I purchased an updated map (2016) as opposed to the 2014 map that was installed on the unit is received. 1st major point to note. You can't purchase lifetime maps, a Garmin feature that I would typically look for on other Gamin units I have purchased. So every time you would want a updated map, it will cost you $75 (current cost). I purchased the updated map. You can't install the maps currently, It appears to be a issue with the Kenwood implementation of the Navigation system and not with Garmin. I have contacted Garmin for a refund, since I've waited over a month and a half, since contacting Garmin about the problem. In that time, I have not heard back from either Garmin or Kenwood. Other than that, it takes a while to get familiar with this unit.
