Puzzle heaven!
Escape room puzzle games were all the rage in 2017/18, and Kosmos led the way with these games. I bought this one for my mum (in her 70's) and we played it over a Sunday afternoon. You are given a booklet, a set of puzzle cards and a set of answer cards. You begin locked in a castle and you must find a series of keys that will turn different locks that will eventually free you from the castle. And that's it... you must find the clue to the first puzzle card, then turn that card over. The card gives you further information to enable you to find the next key. There is a code ring included with the game. The code ring shows different key parts of one of three rings. So the key head shapes are on the outer ring, key shafts in the middle ring and then the end part on the smallest ring. Once you have got enough information to find a given key shape, you enter it into the code wheel. A number gets displayed in a small window in the centre of the code wheel. You then pick up the answer card that bears that number and it will tell you if you are correct or not. If you are correct, it leads you to the next clue and so on.The puzzles are excellent and very creative/imaginative, although sometimes we found that a couple of them were a good idea, but fell a bit short when you actually perform them. You have to think cryptically as well as literally. If you get stuck, there are some hint cards you can refer to that will put you on the right track. We downloaded the app which includes a soundtrack to play during play which was fun, but it gets louder as you go and eventually it just became distracting so we turned it off.Point of note: - you will destroy parts of this game in order to progress, so this is a play-once only game. But at under £15, and for the amount of fun in the game, this really isn't an issue. If you love puzzles, then you must get one of these games and give it a go. More players can be a help or hindrance as you can get put down a misleading avenue by someone convinced they know the answer. If you don't like puzzles, then there is nothing here for you.Every once in a while, a new game mechanic comes along that really shakes up the modern board game industry. The escape-room games are one such example. They bring a table-top version of the ever popular real-life escape rooms, and do it very, very well.

I really enjoyed this one which was more challenging than the Abandoned ...
This is the second Exit game we have played as a family. I really enjoyed this one which was more challenging than the Abandoned Cabin but all the better for it. You will require some patience, organization and attention to detail while playing but these games are very cleverly put together and really do test your powers of deduction and reasoning. You need to set aside about 3 hours to play. We played with our 2 teenage daughters and 25-year old nephew on holiday and completed it within 2 and a half hours. Tip - read all clues very carefully and get a second person to read them too - would have saved us 30 mins if we had!!!

Forgotten Island
Having been to lots of escape rooms I thought I'd give this a go and opted for a 3* rated game.It was ridiculously hard! Didn't find it fun at all and ended up needing a lot of the help cards. Lost interest after a couple of hours playing and ended up throwing the game away as we didn't see the point carrying on.Having read lots of great reviews I will get a 2* level to try and hope it is easier and then perhaps try another harder one again.

Missing a good storyline
I was somewhat disappointed with this game mainly because of the lack of a proper storyline or plot to drive the puzzles forward. We have previously played the escape room games from the Unlock series which we all love, including the very young ones. However EXIT is very different: it is really just about solving a sequence of puzzles. Because there is a lack of background story there is also very little to guide the players towards sensible solutions. So overall, I thought the puzzles lacked context and there was little to go by when trying to find a solution; that makes the experience frustrating instead of challenging and we ended up finishing just for the sake of completing the whole thing. I would recommend instead the Adventure Games series by KOSMOS but, ideally, a combination of both the AS and the EXIT concepts would be my personal preference.

Disappointed child who could not play a game meant for age group.
Gave to intelligent 12 year old for Christmas a year ago who was unable to play with her intelligent parents because they could not understand what to do. She saved it to play with her intelligent grandparents this Christmas. Disaster no one could get to grips with game. How embarrassing, Will not buy any of these games again. Much more fun to book family trip to exit rooms which we all enjoy and gets the grey matter ticking over.A waste of money for a friendly family game.
