why doesn't the catnip stay on top of the scratcher rather then landing on my tile floor?

In the 17 years that I have had my cats, that's pretty much the problem with all cardboard scratchers, as there is nothing for the dried catnip to adhere to. Thinking out loud here, I just thought of something that might solve the problem, I know that when my cats lick the scratchers to get the catnip, the moisture helps the catnip stay on the scratcher. I'm going to try using my water mister on the scratcher to help the catnip stay on the scratcher better.

Will my rotund feline get caught in it? Should I be worried to find him helplessly entrapped by the very thing he loves most?

I have large 16lb medium hair, a bit chubby around the mid section and he loves going in the triangle middle. He has even run thru it but he had to be careful. I’m thinking about getting the larger one too but he scratches on this from day one, prefers scratching inside, laying inside. My luck, he won’t like bigger one. Lol
