The Big Green Egg Book: Cooking on the Big Green Egg

I was really disappointed by this book. I bought my BGE and expected a heavyweight book packed with recipes for BBQ food. Instead, this is a much more rounded and balanced book to show you everything the BGE can do - BBQ, Pizza Oven, Clay oven, slow cook. Not a bad idea but seriously, I can't believe I'll ever set the thing up to bake a cake so I really don't need that section. Also, one of the recipe was a few chicken legs served with beetroot and salad - that's just a quick dinner knocked up after work. Not worth the hassle of firing up the BBQ and then cleaning it afterwards. They've created a good book to demonstrate everything you could possible do with you BGE but this type of book isn't for me.

I read some of the other reviews that were not in the main very favourable But I went ahead nevertheless and bought the book. The critique was that it was a marketing tool for BGE, which it is ....although in fact it suggests ways to use the BGE and its accessories. MY BGE has not yet arrived but after reading the book I added to the order the half moon cast iron grill which seems to be used for several recipes (e.g. Sicilian Sardines, Squid from the PLQNCHA, Grilled cabbage....) Essentially this accessory turns the thing into a plancha and therefore useful for me.The BGE is a BBQ grill when used with the cast iron grid and direct heat.It is also an oven when used with the ConvEGGtor that allows the BGE to be used to provide indirect heat..with the pizza stone or an oven proof roasting pan. It can also be used as a hot smoker again using the indirect heating shield (ConvEGGtor). Frankly all of these options are new to me and it is nice to see the options and some basic recipes to capitalise on them.The photos are superb and really excites and motivates one to cook and the last section where three star Michelin chefs set out some superb recipes for me gives an opportunity to make dishes that cost 150€uros a head plus wine ...if you can manage to book a table.I highly recommend the book to people like me that are intrigued by the opportunities of the BGE and now wish to get the best out of an expensive purchase when supplied with the range of accessories that are most likely needed to get to use th BGE to the full.

somewhat disappointed - it is a marketing piece from BGE with recipes from famous chefs ; and a long introduction about the company and the BGE. that's cool but that's not the every day recipes book that I expected. I feel I paid a lot of money to buy what should be offered with the BGE itself. Plus for each recipe they told you that you should have bought 25 extra pieces (special grill for fish, special grill for veal which is not the same than that for beef etc)

Looking forward receiving this book. Expected a serious Big Green Egg cookbook but was really, really disappointed. Although some serious 3 star Michelin cooks endorsed the book, the book is very light. Very disappointing. Big Green Egg BBQ is a good product, but this book is a waste the paper it is printed on.
