Katie is off to London to see...
...the sights, with Grandma and, this time, little brother Jack goes along too.Delighted to find some of the original covers, I started at the very beginning, with Katie’s Picture Show and have been hooked ever since! A number of the titles explore the art world further & one visits a natural history museum, but this story is still an adventure, albeit of a different kind.As usual, there is an educational slant to the story and scope for further discussion, throughout.🦁 KATIE IN LONDON🌞 JAMES MAYHEW🦁 ORCHARD BOOKS🔷 2004 PAPERBACK EDITION 🔷ooOooFrom the back cover:‘Katie, Jack and Grandma are off to London to see the sights!Adventure follows Katie wherever she goes, and soon wonderful things begin to happen as she and Jack set out on an amazing and magical tour of London...with a most unusual guide.Join Katie and Jack on their fun-packed sightseeing tour, as they discover London and its thrilling attractions.ooOooMeasuring in around 25 cm x 21.25 cm, this is a larger than average width paperback.I simply love the illustrations in the ‘Katie’ books – the eye for detail, e.g. the No 9 to Trafalgar Square that starts the tour on the very first page and off the trio go on a big red bus.On arrival at Trafalgar Square, Grandma is, as usual, tired and sits herself down for a little nap.Katie looks after Jack as they take a closer look at a bronze lion on a stone plinth. But this is no ordinary lion as it turns out, and as the sun begins to shine, the tour of London really begins. A flying visit to St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London & the Crown Jewels, Tower Bridge, the Globe Theatre, the views from the London Eye, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace...phew...time to chill out a bit in a park, in more ways than one!A packed trip for them all but more so for the lion who is feeling the strain and suggests the bus back to Trafalgar Square, after the children indulge in a bit of shopping in Harrods (where else?)!Back at base, the sun goes in and all is back to normal (or is it?) as Grandma wakes and suggests they start their sightseeing tour! This time, the children are too tired and nod off!Eagle-eyed observers might pick up the nonchalant change at the end of the story, the little bit of evidence that shows an adventure really did take place! The final page has a short paragraph about some of the sights visited, correct at the time of publication of the book. The other titles in the series are (in no particular order): Katie meets the Impressionists Katie and the Sunflowers Katie and the British Artists Katie and the Waterlily Pond Katie and the Mona Lisa Katie and the Starry Night Katie and the Bathers Katie and the Spanish Princess Katie and the Dinosaurs And...young Katie has also been much further afield, i.e. north of the border in Katie in Scotland , and what fan can resist the extra special Katie's London Christmas ?I wonder what she will be up to next?ooOooSTOP PRESS ~ COMING SOON: Get Colouring with Katie: A National Gallery Book Learn to Draw with Katie: A National Gallery Book Discover Art with Katie: A National Gallery Sticker Activity Book ooOoo[8 images attached] ~ Images © JAMES MAYHEW Katie’s Picture ShowKatie meets the ImpressionistsKatie and the SunflowersKatie and the British ArtistsKatie and the Waterlily PondKatie and the Mona LisaKatie and the Starry NightKatie and the BathersKatie and the Spanish PrincessKatie and the DinosaursKatie in ScotlandKatie's London ChristmasGet Colouring with Katie: A National Gallery BookLearn to Draw with Katie: A National Gallery BookDiscover Art with Katie: A National Gallery Sticker Activity Book

Beautiful
Brought this book for my baby niece who lives in Australia, so she can always remember her auntie Katie who lives in London. It’s a beautiful book full of adventure and the illustrations are stunning. Fully intend taking her to visit all the places in her book when she is older

Fantastic book
Lovely book! I got this for my daughters topic at school which was on London. The teacher liked the book so much that she read it out to the whole class. It talked about a child visiting London’s landmarks and was a good summary portrayed in a captivating way for kids.

Excellent introduction to London for children
There is not much more to add to the reviews already posted save to say that it is an excellent book. You can visit all of the sites mentioned in the book by doing the following round robin tour you can start from any point.Start at Trafalgar Square and walk through St James' park to Buckingham Palace (changing the guard gets very busy and children may not be able to see everything plus it is not on every day all year round) and then on to the Houses of Parliament via Horseguards and Downing Street. Get on to the Thames Clipper at the London Eye (you get reduced fairs with a valid travelcard and it is faster than the tourist boats) just over the river from the Houses of Parliament and take it down to Tower Pier, on the way you'll go past Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. From Tower Pier walk past the Tower of London to Tower Bridge then walk around the perimeter of the Tower of London to Tower Hill. Near to the statue of a builder on the same side of the road is the bus stop for the number 15 bus. Wait for the Routemaster London Bus which accepts normal Travel Cards to come as there are modern buses on route 15 as well. The bus will take you past St Paul's Cathedral and on to Trafalgar Square. You won't see the sites in the same order as Katie but you will get to see them all. Enjoy.

Another lovely Katie story.
Used as a starting point for a topic on London. It was a great introduction to the key sites built into an entertaining story. My children enjoyed it and it served as an introduction to other Katie stories. They inspired plenty of classroom discussion, writing and art work.
