Locks don't lock. You really get what you pay for.
I did a lot of research before deciding to buy these, but somehow every review I read failed to mention how useless the locking on these poles is while extolling their weight.Being lightweight means nothing if the poles can not fulfill their primary function as trekking poles, and these most certainly can not.I purchased these poles at the end of February. I was at the time visiting my parents who live in an AT trail town, and they had just asked me not to return home until the Coronavirus threat ended. Not wanting to go to my NYC apartment even for a quick trip to get my stuff and risk potentially infecting my elderly parents, I figured there was a whole lot of day hiking in my future (I was right) and I would need poles (I was also right). I thought a cheap pair like this would be the perfect solution (I was wrong).Constantly when using these poles I notice them sliding shorter than I had set them too. Every ten minutes or so I stop and use my knife as a lever try and get the locks tight enough to prevent them sliding down, and every ten minutes I discover how futile that attempt is.Yesterday - exactly to the day one month after I placed the order to buy them - was officially my last day using the poles. I was day hiking on the AT and was moving down a mountain. I foolishly, despite the locking issues, rested my weight on one of these poles for just a moment while making my descent (in my defense the locking problem has been bad but not that bad up until this point) and the pole collapsed to its smallest size. I fell and skidded down a few rocks, and it was only sheer blind luck that I wasn't badly injured and didn't need to go the ER (which is a far more terrifying prospect than usual right now, thanks).I'm not taking these poles out on the trail again. Instead I'm biting the bullet and spending the money on a new pair of Black Diamond poles to keep at my parents house. If anything my horrible experience with these poles as truly taught me that safe and stable poles are far too important to take a risk with a budget gear solution. If you are looking to hit the trails, you really don't want to buy these. The only things they have going for them are price point and weight, which is great if you want to boast to people about your base weight, but beyond useless if you actually want to go for a hike.

Dead on arrival! And doesn't look like 100% carbon fiber to me!
Quick shipping and was hoping it would be a good affordable alternative to Black Diamond or Leki, and it looks like you get what you pay for! Box came in undamaged but as you can see from the photos, one of the cork handles was snapped off and one of the ferules attaching a leg was broken as well. These parts were loose in the bag, so I can only assume it was a return and sold "as new". Really disappointing, and these are going back today. Unfortunately, I won't have the trekking poles for this weekends hike unless I head over to REI. A lot of reviews showing this is a decent pair of trekking sticks, but I think you're rolling the dice. I definitely do not believe these are 100% carbon fiber. Take a look at the internal pictures.
