Rookie says Grizzly made it easy
I am renovating my apartment and I decided to build my own walnut platform bed. I bought some 5/4 walnut stock to make sure I had to buy the planer. Looked here and found the Grizzly and trusted the reviews. Having never used a planer before this was a no brainer planer out of the box. Just plugged it in and it worked perfectly taking 3/16 of an inch off in about 8 passes. I experienced snipe only on my first board... adjusted my feed technique and it was perfect on the next. Some tear out when i tried to take too much material off but adjusted and it was fine. Can't say how long the blades will last but they were as good on the 50th foot as on the first. I intended on selling this after a few projects but i just might be come addicted to wood working after how easy this was to use.

Great Planer - Great Price!!!!!
I own the Grizzly 14" Ultimate Bandsaw and love it. The G0505 did not have any reviews so I hesitated but decided to take the risk and order it. 5 days later it arrived. It comes 99.9% assembled and was up and running in 5 minutes. The unit does everything it should and does it well. It is solid and vibration free. I ran several test boards through from pine to Imbuya and the surface produced is very smooth and chip free, all the way to the ends of the boards. This is one well made machine that delivers.

Excellent Planer at a super low price
I have had the planer for over a year now and have used it extensively. It has always provided excellent results with no exception. The only thing that can be done to improve it would be to have some kind of dust collection attachment. I usually have a box setup at the outfeed end and it catches about 90% of the chips coming out but it would be nice not to have to worry about it.I have many grizzly machines around my shop and I have been extremely happy with every one of them. I used their customer service twice (for other machines) and they have gone beyond my expectations both times.

Good tool for the price!
I did a lot of research on small planers and came to the conclusion that I probably will need a 15" ar larger planer at some point, but did not have the budget today to pop for a larger model. As such, I went with this Grizzly G0505, figuring that it would work well enough for my immediate projects and cheap enough that I would not feel bad about replacing it someday.Right out of the box, this little guy has been great. While not as fancy as the Delta and Dewalt models, it was easy enough to set up and has been working really well. At almost half the price of the Delta and Dewalt models, definitely a good buy.

Poor quality and early death.
I am a grizzly fan and have many grizzly tools, but this is absolute garbage. DO NOT BUY THIS PLANER. Feeding in/out was good, but It cannot hold a dimension, is not parallel from left to right, cannot properly expel shavings into the optional dust hood, and smells like it's laboring all the time. After only two years of occasional, light use, the motor case is cracking and it smells worse than ever. I complained to grizzly about the build quality, shortly after I bought it, wanted to return it, and they did nothing. The dust hood does not fit right, hangs in the path of wood, and comes with seals that are dessicated/falling off. It never sealed around the exit point. They sent me another, with the same issue, and finally a pathetic excuse for a seal that did not even have the same dimensions. I had to buy something to make it work, right out of the box. 2 years out of a several hundred dollar machine is unacceptable!

Awesome tool. Can't brag on it enough
Bought this item a few weeks ago and was finally able to use it today. It's simply awesome. As have all the other grizzly products I have purchased. I'm incredibly impressed with the quality of the tool. The thickness dial is very accurate. The assembly out of the box is minimal (5 minutes tops). The machine will not allow you to try and take too big of a bite off of a board. Truthfully between the high quality and the fool proof nature of the tool it's one of the easiest woodworking recommendations I can make to date. I can't say that this item is better than any other planers out there but you will NOT be disappointed if you choose this tool. Hands down.

Disappointed
This is my first Grizzly power tool, which I purchased based on the rave reviews. Out of the box, I tried to plane twelve-inch maple wide for shelving. The first few passes using small incremental cuts resulted in the wood jamming, getting marred with paint and grease, and a few tear-outs. Not a good start. The jamming was caused by poor manufacturing. In the outfeed of the unit, there are two metal studs that seem to hold the board down as it exits. On my planer, one of these studs was 1/16" longer than the other, causing the jams and cutting into the wood. Had to file the stud down just to get the wood to pass through. I still have problems with the wood getting stained with green paint and gouges. Not sure what to think of Grizzly power tools. I should have payed more for a better unit, probably not a Grizzly.
