Needs a smooth tile design to work.
The bathtub walls will do as well. Our tiles at home aren't super smooth so they do slide around slightly, though depending on your child's dexterity he may afford not to knock them about with play. Not the level of skill expected of a child, is it.If using the tubes standalone it's an effortless setup, just apply minimal moisture to the suction cups and press. When daisy-chaining two or more though they do have to be aligned for the water to seamlessly flow, again if you're doing this on your tub walls it's fine, otherwise with less-than-smooth tiles the pipes will slide around causing them to fall out of alignment.
