High Quality Hay
I have been purchasing this brand and type (Timothy Hay, 2nd Cutting) for my rabbit for 3 years now. A couple times I waited too long to order and ran out and had to buy a different brand. Those other ones didn't compare. This hay is always fresh, never any pests that came along in the box, Easy to reclose over and over. My rabbit loves eating this. I buy the 12 pound box and it lasts about 3 months for my adult American Blue breed. She's approximately 7 pounds.

Best Hay! Good color, cut nicely, and soft!
This is the first time I am leaving a review for this product, but I have been buying Small Pet Select's brand of hay for the past several years and really, nothing in any big name store has compared. The price is by far the best per lb ratio, the hay always has a nice green coloring, the pieces are chopped smaller than store brands, and it's significantly softer than any hay I have purchased at a store.I recently went to the store to purchase hay since I only have 1 senior guinea pig remaining, and she does not eat as much as she used to, and was absolutely disappointed at the quality that stores sell. I immediately placed an order with small pet select for more, I am glad they offer a variety size of boxes since I will not need as much anymore.Though, once my piggie does pass, I probably will not get another. So with that said I hope this business continues to do well and sell the same great quality that they have provided me for the past several years.

Excellent Hay!
I’ve ordered this hay many times for my two guinea pigs and they absolutely love it! This company actually cares about their quality hay. I couldn’t recommend them more!

Boys love it!
The boys love this hay! They always scream with excitement when I refill their pile. They eat almost all of it as it's a balanced mix of soft hay with few of those hard straw pieces. Lasts a long time too even with my 4 guinea pigs so good value.

12 lbs is a LOT of hay
First of all, I vastly underestimated how much 12 lbs of hay is - my guinea pigs will probably have hay from this box for several months - that said, one good thing is you get a LOT for your money. I will likely get a smaller box next time - I have a small apartment and I've to keep the box outside on the (covered) porch - the hay has not gotten moldy or discolored or anything. The first thing I noticed about the hay is how GOOD it smelled - it was so fresh. My piggies are very picky so it took a while for them to come around to it - they'd previously been on a bagged hay from the pet store and I think that's all they've ever known (I got them as rescues about a year ago so I'm unsure what they were eating before that). But now they seem to love it.My only complaint is I didn't realize that the hay was not in a bag in the box so I opened this box in my apartment and got hay all over the carpet. I know the reasons for this - that it stays fresher in the box, but I wish I'd known this so I could have opened it outside - I've since relocated it to two plastic garbage bags, but reading through the reviews it seems paper is the way to go so I will be purchasing small paper bags to make little hay snack bags for my piggies. That being said, I will definitely buy this hay again now that I know what to do and I will likely buy a smaller box.

A Tale of Two Hays: Amazon vs. Small Pet Select
Hi small pet owners! I typically do not write reviews but I feel like I had to this time in hopes of helping someone out. I have been ordering this hay more consistently since October 2024. I have gone through a few 10 pound boxes and I have noticed the quality of hay diminishing. It’s very hard, brown, dusty and smells “old” if that makes sense. I have kept ordering it because I believe in Small Pet Select and I love what they stand for. Plus, my guinea pig in the past loved their hay and my bunny seems to have enjoyed the first box. The most recent box I have (see pictures) has so much brown, old, stale hay. But I thought it just came like that, UNTIL I found out that there is a major difference from ordering through Amazon compared to ordering from Small Pet Select DIRECTLY (see pictures). I am pet sitting for my brother and I noticed that his box of hay barley has any brown and it’s so lush, green and sweet smelling. That’s when he told me that he orders directly from Small Pet Select instead of Amazon. I WAS FLOORED and also extremly disappointed in this multi billion dollar company. Our pets deserve the best and if Amazon cannot provide their customers with the same quality as the original retailer then there’s a problem. If you made it this far then I hope you will join me in no longer ordering hay through Amazon and instead order directly from the source, in this case, Small Pet Select. It may be more expensive but the quality is worth it. Please, take it from someone that has made the mistakes so you wouldn’t have to. I was watching an ad yesterday (June 20, 2025) and saw that you can get 10% off hay from Small Pet Select by using this code: Hay10.Our pets are part of our family and should be treated as so. Best of luck small pet owners and please learn from my mistakes.—— Sincerely, A Bun Dad

Fresh hay available in several sizes…
Small Pet Select is our go-to for hay for our bunnies. We buy both the second cut Timothy hay, and their Orchard Grass. They are very fresh and dry, and come in several convenient sizes. Our bunnies love both kinds and are very healthy.
