can anyone answer why this system costing $70 more is better than the Philips 8251?

The Philips 8251 is only 15W, this is 60W.

On philips model fx10 it is said you can hook up an eternal turn-table to aux connectors? does this unit have same capability?

No and yes. I have an audio technica turntable with both RCA cables and USB cable. The stereo doesn’t have any RCA ports, but it does have a line in 3.5 port. What I did was get an RCA to 3.5 adaptor cable and plugged thag into the 3.5 port and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, although this stereo does have a USB port also it doesn’t work with this stereo so the only way to add a turntable that I have found is this way.

Not sure. I do know that the distortion is very low. It has wonderful sound!
