I have a 1999 chevy crewcab ls2500 4wd 5.7 gasoline v8. will it read transmission codes,will not go backwards. regards, steve.

Yes it should.  99 and 2000 model year trucks are notorious for that problem.  The problem normally shows up after the truck sits for a week or more.  They were leaving the factory new like this.  Not sure if there ever was a exact diagnosis to the problem.  Usually after idling and warmup for a few minutes and placing the gear selector in and out of reverse it will work, may clunk and jerk.  If you research that year you might find some explanations.  Other than that if it hasn't sat for a period of time you may look for the transmission code.  It's a pressure issue and solenoid. Like I said the 2500 were leaving the factory like that and GM knew about.

About Register & Update:
Step 1: Connect the scanner with PC by Card Reader. Enter the device menu "Help--Tool Information" and take a photo to record the information displayed.
Step 2: Download update software from 👉https://eninfo.x431.com/prod_view.aspx?TypeId=68&Id=193&FId=t3:68:3 👈on computer.
Step 3: Click the "Updating Tool Download" and follow the message to install the client software on computer.
Step 4: Insert the TF card into the card reader and insert the card reader into your PC port. It will read the product "Serial Number" automatically.
Step 5: Hit "Device Upgrade" to enter the register page, type your email info , check the "Register Code" on the photo you take before.
