The waist is a good fit, I'm usually a size 26 or 2 for my pants/jeans. Its very good quality, however it's VERY TIGHT in the thighs so buyers beware! My thighs are about 20.5 inches and they were super tight. I actually had to cut open the seams and re sew them to open them up a bit. It was so tight it was cutting off my circulation lol.

I was really looking forward to this product. It is lightweight and comfort if I fall but it cut off circulation in my thighs. I can barely walk and I think it is because it is too tight at my thighs and I can’t pull it up any more which just doesn’t fit right. Sad that it didn’t work for me. I am a 26 in and xs is between 22-27 in. I might try ordering up for this men length impact short or get the female version which doesn’t have has much padding and length. I hope or wish they added size chart for thighs base width. The material is like flexible netting except the thigh based is tighter and has reinforced stitching. I would probably order up if I knew measurement for the thighs the first time. Good solid product, just not made for bigger thighs me. With this product if you are in between size or closer to one size than the other range, order up.

Although they aren't specifically designed for soccer, that's what we got them for and they work wonders. Often our municipal fields are pathetic dirt patches that aren't much better than hitting concrete. Many of the padded shorts designed specifically for soccer (and pristine grass fields) simply don't offer enough padding for an aggressive goal keeper. We got these in the XS for our young (pint sized) daughter who is a D1 travel team keeper. She was never afraid to hit the ground but would often complain about the bumps and bruises afterwards. With these she says she feels almost nothing - even on the worst fields. The only reason for a 4 rating instead of a 5 is that the waist band is a bit loose vs. the compression of the legs. The legs fit her great, but we end up having to pin the waist band to cinch it in a little more. They also fit perfect under her normal keeper pants and as other reviews have said, you almost can't even tell she's wearing them (even though they look super-bulky in the photo...)
