Not enough information there. If you have wooden-framed screens whose frames are stuck to the exterior window casing, they might be nailed on with finish nails. Using several prying tools and stiff scrapers might help, establishing a little gap first with a stiff scraper at the bottom, and then working up a little bit at a time, using thinner tools higher up and thicker one below, until you find the nails. Then you can use a flat-bar to pry close to them to open up about a 1/4" or 1/2" gap, and then look for another nail higher up. With a little patience, you can pry the thing off without ruining it.

Q: How do I know if this is a real Hyde tool and not a counterfeit like so much of the merchandise on Amazon?

I've been shopping on both Amazon and the other outfit since their inceptions and have NEVER had a problem with counterfeit items. It's hard to imagine how they could stay in business with "so much of the merchandise" being fake. I can definitely vouch for this item. Its a genuine Hyde for sure. The only difference from the one I bought in a San Francisco hardware store 30 years ago, is that this newer model has a more durable plastic handle instead of wood which eventually failed.

Q: can you open from just one side? I would have to be a trick artist to get to the outside of my upstairs windows.

some windows r set from the outside and some from the inside and it is a tricksome windows r sash set and cant b reglazedfind the manufacturer and c if they require to replace the full sash
