Not cheap but very good quality
Bought this in January and only now i do the review so 10 months after. In the past i bought 2 dell monitors and since alienware is part of dell i was not sure if i should buy this or not, specially after the nightmare i had with customer service from dell which i do believe is one of the worst services out there.Anyway i got the 27 inch ips 240 hz and i can confirm that i am happy and so far the monitor served me good.It has great colour calibration out of the box, that 240 hz is really good and i know lot of people will say you barely can see the difference from 144 vs 240 but trust me it is noticeable and i played lot of fps in my life. Has few preset modes that are good but they need some tweaks and 3 response times fast, super fast and extreme. Fast mode is the best one, while super fast it does improve the response time and you will notice it comes with the cost of ghosting and the last one extreme is really bad, causes very noticeable ghosting, should be avoided. Now about build quality i can confirm the product feels very premium has nice finishes, very thin bezels and the chin is spot on, the monitor has rgb named AlienFx which is not bad but this days this is how they get more money from us. 3 total zones one at the bottom, one on the back that has the logo of Alienware and the last zone is on the back of the stand, you will not get any +fps if you have them on ๐ .There is also some stuff that is not that great, so this monitor is advertised as HDR 600 and g sync ultimate which i admit if you have it on in a game like forza horizon 4 you will see the difference really nice vibrant colours and no screen tearing, problem here is that thr hdr 600 it only has 32 local dimming zones that are not enough to produce proper HDR and on mine i can see it when i move the mouse from left side to right side a white line shows in different locations of the monitor. Last thing is that in order to use 10 or 12 output colour depth you have to set the refresh rate at 144, everything above this value will be 8 bpc which is not good enough if you watch HDR content.Overall great monitor, i do recommend this, has lot of features and few cons, hope this review helps potential buyers.

The best gaming monitor I've ever owned
Having recently upgraded my gaming PC, I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade my aging but still amazing Asus Rog Swift PG279Q, which has done me proud for the last few years. So here we are, with the gorgeous Alienware AW2721D.Not really sure where to begin, there's so much. I guess the first thing is to say that I'm extremely picky and choosy when it comes to PC hardware. My gaming PC is top tier, using tech released late last year and so I wanted to ensure that I'd be getting the best possible view of that. I'm not bought into 4K, at all, though and its not a cost issue. I don't believe that compromising performance for what has become diminishing returns for IQ, based fully on consoles chasing TV tech, makes any sense. 1440p native is perfect.I should just also say that I tried a G7 (two actually) prior to this, based on "reviews" and was hugely disappointed for various reasons including dirt under the glass, scanlines at higher refresh that kill IQ and bad motion smear in games. So having moved on from that, to this, the differences are remarkable. Yes, its a smaller panel size and not curved but that's where the negatives end. Everything this offers is immeasurably better. To list these out..1. No quality issues with the screen. No backlight bleed, no dead pixels and no dirt under the glass.2. HDR, whilst edge-lit, is hugely improved. I was quite startled by this.3. Colour pops far more. Everything is bright and clear and, well, colourful.4. In motion, there is no smearing or shadow drag, as seen on VA panels.I was curious as to why a lot of this is the case, as whilst this is more expensive than the G7, the reason wasn't very apparent. It seems its due to the Gsync Ultimate certification, which provides the following...Refresh rates greater than or equal to 144 HzVariable LCD overdriveOptimized latency for gamingFactory-calibrated accurate SDR (sRGB) and HDR color (P3) gamut supportBest-in-class HDR supportBest-in-class image qualitySo out of the box, this thing looks utterly fantastic. I can't stress that enough. No calibration needed. Using HDR in windows, which flattened colour on the G7, does not happen here. Games remain vibrant and colourful at all times. Night and day difference. Really. There aren't enough platitudes or positives I can put down for this monitor. It's sublime. The best gaming monitor I've ever owned.Buy it. If you don't believe me, look up some reviews but I guarantee you won't need to.

You get what you pay for
I spent ages reading reviews and watching youtube vids trying to decide on what screen to get. There's not much choice for a 1440p screen with high refresh and a decent HDR rating and this is by far the most expensive in its range. Every other screen I looked at in its class seemed to have issues, be it ghosting, poor colours or really bad backlight bleeding with HDR on.While expensive I have no regrets and would buy it again without hesitation. Its by far the nicest screen I've ever used. When I first booted up some games to test it I was shocked by how much better and smoother everything looked. The colours pop and there's zero ghosting even in fast moving games. If you can afford it you wont regret it.The only minor issue I could point out would be with HDR on in very dark/black screens you will notice some minor light bleeding on the local dimming zones, its never enough to make it look bad, but you will notice if you look for it. This is just a side effect of only being HDR600. To avoid this you'd have to get an HDR1000+ screen of which there very few on the market and they cost a few hundred more than this.Overall a great screen and the best one I've ever used.
