Not as good as I thought it'd be, but a good read anyway

4.5 starsOh, Ashes to Ashes. How long I have waited to have you in my hands! Totally worth it though. This trilogy is simply put - amazing. Definitely a must read and one of my favorites of all time.One of the biggest difference for me between Burn for Burn and Fire with Fire was the characters. I hated almost every. single. character. in Burn for Burn, as much as I loved the story. When Fire with Fire came around. All of that changed. Suddenly the only person I really didn’t like was Rennie, and towards the end Mary.I still love the characters in Ashes for Ashes, but Reeve had this one misogynistic line that really stood out to me. I think the entire point was too make me think less of Reeve and that really bothered me. For more on that, check out my book talk <http://youtu.be/2Qz7FXadQX8>, but in the interest of keeping this spoiler-free I’m not going into anymore detail on that.Now speaking of characters I didn’t like, Mary takes things to a whole new level in Ashes to Ashes. Now that she realizes she’s actually dead, she’s out for blood - and it’s kind of terrifying. I’m still sympathetic to Mary for many reasons, but there is no question that she is the big bad villain in this one.Mary’s character really made the drama in Ashes to Ashes magnificent. This was well beyond the revenge schemes in the prior novel because I was actually afraid for people’s lives. The plot was insanely suspenseful and I did not want to put this one down for a second. I did because I had to sleep, but I tossed and turned all night agonizing over how things would turn out - no joke.And of course there is the Lilia and Reeve love story that developed in Fire with Fire. I love those two together, I really do. They’re one of my favorite couples of all time and I never would have seen that coming after finishing Burn for Burn. The only thing I’d like to change about this book is the epilogue. In fact, I may pretend that it never happened.Ashes to Ashes has it all and is just a stunning conclusion to an amazing trilogy. Great plot, awesome characters, epic love story. This trilogy really took me by surprise with how awesome it is and I am so glad to have read it.

I’ll review the series as a whole and not just this book, however I accidentally picked up the 3rd book up before the 2nd one and I didn’t realise until the end. Not that much happens in the second book that it just felt like a month time skip where nothing all that interesting happened apart from at the very end.The 3rd book in the series takes a supernatural twist that’s written quite well, but feels like it’s tried to take a YA novel on a different path so it doesn’t blend in to the rest.The 1st and 3rd books are the better books, where as the 2nd book feels like a placer and is there to set up the 3rd book.I do recommend reading this series as I did enjoy them (albeit in the wrong order). I feel like I might be a little more positive over the 2nd book if I’d read it in the right order (but that’s my own fault!)

Ich habe diesem Buch so entgegengefiebert, weil ich einfach wissen musste, wie eine meiner Lieblingsreihen endet. Die Sache bei diesen Büchern ist die, dass man eigentlich nie wirklich weiß, was passiert. Auch für dieses dritte Buch war eigentlich alles offen. Normalerweise bin ich kein Fan davon, nicht zu wissen, worauf ich mich einlasse, aber die Charaktere und die Grundhandlung haben mich einfach gefesselt.Das Ende von Fire with Fire hat mich ziemlich aufgewühlt zurückgelassen. Es sind so viele unglaubliche Dinge passiert, die ich erstmal verarbeiten musste.Gemeinsam mit Mary haben wir erfahren, dass sie ein Geist ist. Mary mochte ich eigentlich immer am liebsten von den drei Charakteren. Doch jetzt wo sie ein Geist ist, verändert sie sich und wird zu einer ganz anderen Person. Sie denkt, ihre Bestimmung liegt darin, Reeve zu töten, damit sie endlich frei sein kann. Außerdem fühlt sie sich von Kat und Lillia hintergangen, die beide nett zu Reeve sind und scheinbar gar nicht mehr daran denken, was er Mary angetan hat. Immer wenn Marys Passagen kamen, hatte ich so ein unheilvolles Gefühl und Angst, was sie wohl als Nächstes anstellen würde.Angst hatte ich deshalb, weil das, was Reeve und Lillia sich aufgebaut haben, einfach richtig schön ist. Im Laufe der Bücher haben wir Reeve besser kennen gelernt und eine Seite an ihm entdeckt, die Mary mit ihrer eingefärbten Sichtweise übersieht. Die Beziehung zwischen Reeve und Lillia war richtig schön. Ich konnte es teilweise kaum glauben, was der einsilbige, a****ige Reeve für sie alles aufgibt und wie er sich um Lillia sorgt.Natürlich muss deren Beziehung aber erstmal geheim bleiben, da Rennie gerade erst gestorben ist und es sich für die beiden wie ein Betrug anfühlt.Generell war es sehr interessant mit zu verfolgen, wie viele Charaktere sich im Laufe der Reihe verändert haben. Reeve, den ich anfangs aus tiefstem Herzen hasste, konnte ich nach und nach sogar in mein Herz schließen. Und Mary wurde vom lieben Mädchen zum Racheengel. Nur bei Kat und Lillia gab es nicht so wahnsinnig viel Veränderung. Beide sind erwachsener geworden und haben vielleicht einen anderen Blick auf die Dinge bekommen.Das Ende war mal wieder sehr spannend, auch wenn ich mir vielleicht ein bisschen mehr Action und am liebsten noch mehr unerwartete Wendungen, die dieses Mal leider ein bisschen kurz kamen. Aber generell war das Ende zufriedenstellend und in Ordnung.Der Epilog jedoch hat mich völlig verwirrt. Ich verstehe einfach nicht, warum der Epilog einen wichtigen Punkt nochmal ändert. Rein theoretisch war nach der Problemlösung am Ende auch ein völliges Happy End möglich. Ich verstehe nicht, warum die Autorinnen sich dagegen entschieden haben und finde es auch ein bisschen doof.Fazit:Diese Reihe zählt definitiv zu meinen Lieblingen. Auch wenn man vom ersten Buch aus unmöglich vorhersagen kann, wohin sich die Reihe entwickelt, habe ich jedes einzelne Kapiteln mit den tollen Charakteren geliebt. Die Bücher sind einfach total fesselnd, lesen sich schnell und haben immer wieder so tolle Momente, in denen einem einfach der Mund offen steht. Der abschließende Band hat mir zwar nicht alle Lösungen gegeben, wie ich sie mir gewünscht hätte, aber für mich haben sich alle Fragen beantwortet und ich kann damit leben.
