Know what sound you are buying...
When you buy this headphone, know it is tuned FLAT. If you are used to a lot of other popular consumer headphones (particularly other V-MODAs) these will probably sound woody and dark to you. The bass is light, and there is not really any "sparkle" or "space" in the higher frequencies. I have to say I was disappointed by the sound out of the box, and for many genres end up equalizing it to a slight V (maybe +\- 3 db) which I find more enjoyable. The imaging and detail is pretty good, although I have heard better from other headphones. I suspect the slimmer form factor might negatively contribute here. But they do have a pretty decent soundstage compared to most other closed back headphones I have tried. Overall these are great headphones with a little tweaking, but unless you know you like having a flat response or enjoy equalizing everything, I think you would be better served by other choices.

Amazing build quality, okay comfort, decent but not immense soundstage
Amazing build quality, okay comfort. Soundstage isn’t very wide due to the closed back design, however the sound is accurate as a pair of professional monitor headphones should be. I have no complaints other than the less than optimal comfort that will lead to sore ears in those with larger ears. Hopefully V moda makes Xl ear pads for these cans to top it all off

Professional Headphones not everyone's cup of tea
I earlier had the Soundmagic E80C which has a nice balanced sound signature. Given the price, you won't be amazed if you have owned the E80's. This headphone is perfect for audiophiles and professionals but not for bass heads. It has a completely flat sound signature so you can enjoy music the way the musician intended it to be provided you own good audio hardware as well as software. They are rather tight which gave me a headache the first night. Also, one may tend to sweat as they heat a little but you will get used to it. Overall, the sound signature is awesome provided you are a connoisseur of quality music.

Too mixed a bag
The V-Moda M-200 had received mixed reviews, but I liked the form factor and promise of neutral sound (despite opinions on what the is actually varying) and the ability to fold them into a neat, small package. I'll summarise my experience: Pros: - The case they come with is practically dainty, at least compared to cases you'd likely get for a pair of headphones that don't fold the way the M-200 does. - The headphones themselves are built really nicely, nearly all metal where applicable (headband, yokes, most of the cups). - The fit is snug, in a good way (for me). They clamp a decent amount, but they were still reasonably comfortable for me. This also means they don't stick out much. - Bass is nice, not boosted, but pretty well extended and reasonably detailed. However, I feel like e.g. the Sennheiser HD600 and the Fostex T40RP Mk3 are more detailed. The M-200 seemed about on par with the AKG K275's bass detail, while being more linear. - Highs didn't seem excessively bright and they didn't seem sibilant either. Cons - The pads are shallow. I'd read about them being on the thinner side, but the part of their that is foam is around 1cm, perhaps even less (difficult to measure). Despite that, they aren't immediately uncomfortable. However, they did make me shift the headphones a round quite a bit and, eventually, I tried to use third party pads with it (more on that later). - Replacement pads are not available. No genuine ones, and I haven't been able to find third party ones that would fit the new mount (different from earlier V-Moda headphone), either. This is problematic, to an extent, because the pads that do sort of fit aren't really secure enough on the headphones or they change the sound too much. - Not much headband padding. - Vocals sound quite odd. Deeper voices (mostly male vocals) sounded very boxy, even when the recording was of a live concert in a pretty sizeable hall. This was similar for female vocals, just not quite as bad. Almost every other headphones I have seemed more true to life here. I then went and took a look at the frequency response graph V-Moda published for the headphones at Head-fi and it made sense - the downward slope starts a little early (around 2.5 kHz) and goes down pretty quickly. What helped here somewhat was using Brainwavz pleather earpads for Sony MDR-7506 and adding 3-4 dB at 3 kHz in Peace (GUI for Equalizer APO). However, the pads were quite difficult to put on, and they still didn't feel very secure, shifting fairly easily on there. In the end, I returned them, because vocals sounded just too wrong. If the headphone had a ridge or a lip that would allow me to secure the Brainwavz pads on the headphones, I'd have kept probably them, but not as they are (custom mount that prevents even use of V-Moda pads for their other current models).
