It's good, and it has a cool history!
Interesting stuff. It tastes quite nice. Hard to describe but it's tasty. The stimulant effect is a lot more like what you get from chocolate than the kind of caffeine that's in coffee, which makes sense since it's theobromine. It's a lot less harsh and jittery than coffee, and it seems to last a bit longer. It's also easier on my stomach than coffee, which is nice, if you've got a sensitive stomach. Fun fact, archeologists have found the remains of yaupon in Mississippian indian sites like Cahokia and Aztalan, which means they were gathering it in the south and shipping it upriver to Illinois and Wisconsin. It appears they would make big batches of it on feast days and have big parties. Along with the yaupon bowls there was also the remains of a lot of deer and fish. Sounds like fun!Since tea isn't very exciting to look at, here's a picture of what Cahokia might have looked like.It remains the largest earthenwork complex in the world, and you can still visit it or Aztalan. Maybe bring some yaupon and snacks if you visit. Have a nice picnic.Anyway, it's good. Buy it if you like tea, are into history, just curious, or especially if you want some caffeine but have a sensitive stomach. I have found that the directions provide a good steeping time. If you follow that, then you will end up with a nice almost sweet (but not quite) brew. Over steep it and it get's a little more bitter ("bitter" relatively speaking, still not very bitter), to where a little honey is nice. It's not a bad bitter though, just like strong green tea or something. Just a personal preference of mine. Experiment and see what you like. I've also found that you can very easily do a nice cold brew with it, and it really lends itself to it. Makes a great iced tea. That's actually my favorite thing to do with it.

Tea and tea are not always the same.
If you read some of the early stories of the English as they try to set up colonies in "the new world" you will repeatedly run into "and they shared tea" mentions where the local native population provided the tea. This is that North American native tea, and it looks different, tastes different, and has more caffeine than the Asian teas have. Made up the boiling way it was prepared then it is a strong flavor beverage, and a single bag can make two or three mugs of tea-- and that is key to the difference, it seems to be possible to make it as strong as coffee, too.Really good, just get a big mug, not a tiny teacup, and let it come to a full boil. This is "America's Tea" not the other stuff that is refined-- this is for real people..

If Bitter Is Better For You...
I love that this is North America's only caffeinated plant & that the folks growing it now are working hard to do it in a sustainable way. That said, it does not taste like black tea. This stuff'll put hair on your chest, that's for sure. As someone who really likes bitterness, I can handle it OK, but for others...watch out! I bought both light & dark roast from Lone Pine & found the light roast easier to handle. The batch of dark roast I was sent has a faint onion flavor--perhaps some chives got mixed in? But the bottom line is that I'm now a yaupon drinker for life: it doesn't make my heart race, does seem to clear brain fog, doesn't bother my sensitive stomach at all, & is loaded with antioxidants & other healthy substances.

Does not taste like coffee
The tea has good flavor like Lipton tea or black tea.But no way does it taste like coffee!!!!!! I bought this because the reviews on line said good coffee substitute. Nope not even close. But I would recommend for a person who drinks tea.

Mellow Flavor, mild zing
Just as advertised. Was very surprised with the lift and flavor. When coffee becomes scarce in the US due to inflation and shipping costs, it's good to know that there is one non-toxic, caffeine-bearing plant grown in the US. Best to ween yourself off caffeine, but if that is not possible now, then Yaupon may be an answer.

New Type of Tea
Read about Yaupon on the BBC website and decided to give it a try. I ordered both the dark and light roasts. Both taste good. I experienced alertness without the caffeine shakes. I was able to enjoy without having to add sugar or honey. I will definitely buy this again in the future.

I like this and will buy again
To start I only drink black, irish breakfast, english breakfast or earl grey. My tea is dark/strong like coffee and that's how I like it.This is not dark/strong tea. However, I do like it. It is different than black tea but is still good.It overall good, and darker than most other teas.Unfortunately, it's something you will have to try as everyone taste are different. For me is good, and will drink again and actually now considering buy a tree to have my own tea readily available
