The worst 5 start product
I never write reviews but there are a few things you need to know if you are going to buy this. When I got mine, ALL of the stands had tightening issues, namely that they wouldn't. A stand that won't tighten is a stand that won't stand. The bolts would either hit the back of the knob before it would tighten or the plastic guard on the knob would block you from turning it further.Luckily I had a vice grip and a metal saw. I cut the bolts that were too long (about a 1/4 inch), and the ones that were too short I had to cut the plastic nob a bit so they had more threading. Luckily, that worked great! Everything tightens up really nice now. It's just a bummer they wouldn't make tweaks to the hardware so you wouldn't have to do this. I had to make alterations to about 8-10 bolts in total. There were other issues as well. The stitching is pretty poor and there are lots little threads are ready to come loose on most of the bags and cases. One of the light housings had a defective plug that had two positive prongs, i.e. it wouldn't fit any electrical socket, so I had to file one of the prongs down, which also worked. The set up time is also pretty intense. I took me about 2 hours to set this up the first time but I imagine I might get that down to about 30 minutes. One thing that helps is consolidating some of the items since everything comes in it's own box. I taped all the light bulb boxes together and found a shoe box to put all the light heads and hardware in. Now I don't have to open up 10 boxes with styrofoam, just two. Instead of keeping all 5 stands in boxes, I just throw them in the bottom of the bag. It makes things a lot faster. Now I just need to figure out a fast way to put on the soft boxes which do require a fair amount of finessing. So there are a lot of problems with this kit BUT, this is a 5 star product if I've ever seen one. I'm so happy to have this set. Even with the fanangling I had to do, the value is incredible and if you don't have a light-set, now you don't have a reason (unless there is no way for you to cut a bolt). This is a measly $200 and you get the same quality of light as packages of upwards of 2 grand. Sure there is some pain that comes with this kit, but it is a great starter set and will easily pay for itself. My expectations weren't high, but this has opened up a new world of photography and videography. The positives easily overshadow the negatives. It's a no brainer.Plus there were a few pleasant surprises. Everything fits in one small duffle bag, the 65w bulb was actually a 105w bulb, and the softboxes are each in their own case. The soft boxes are actually pretty decent, and the first time I turned these guys on, I was very surprised at the amount of light they gave off.So yeah, this isn't the light set of my dreams but I'm really glad I have these. This is one of the best buys around.

Seriously??? Does anyone ever do quality control anymore??
I REALLY wanted to like this set-up and was encouraged by a few of the reviews. Item arrived on time and when I opened the box, the carrying case had several footprints on it. When I went to release the Velcro on the handle, the entire closure assembly began to pull away from the handle (the stitching holding the Velcro to the handle was terribly inferior). The interior items looked okay at first glance, so I proceeded to try to set it up. As I began going through the contents (most of which I didn't remove from the case), it was immediately obvious that several of the CFL's were broken and the product had been subject to very rough handling (more of the boxes inside appeared to be punctured or popped open) - and the instructions - well, as others have reported, there were not any to be found. The build quality on some of these pieces actually appeared MUCH better than average for a discount kit of this type and price. Had I got a good copy of this I probably would have been satisfied for the price paid. This really isn't portable at all - it is more a set it up and leave it up kit, I very much have the strong feeling that if you tear it down more than a few times things won't hold up well at all - and there is no accommodation made for a partial tear-down, you would have to gingerly box / bag every single connected piece back up all the way to each CFL being unscrewed and placed back into the box they came in (or you'd have to get a cheap case w/foam to carry them in) - it would take you an hour or more and if you can't set it up in 5 minutes on site, it isn't worth your time to own it. This would take you 30 minutes setup and 30 minutes tear-down. Two stars dinged for unbelievably crappy QC on the product and no ability to get a replacement, only a refund. All in all a waste of my time - one more star stripped for that half hour of my life I'll never get back. I put everything that came with it back in the case, slid it in the box and slapped a label on it to go back to Amazon. I don't really think I was shipped a previously used / returned kit, I think it just was an instance of very poor QC in China. I doubt I will re-order, but I have not ruled it out - if I do, I will update this review.

Great Beginner Kit
I ordered this because I wanted and knew I was going to be needing a lighting kit.. the lights alone are worth $200 in my opinion..The Boom was a pain in the butt for me to set up but eh.. not that bad..The stands are a bit flimsy but if you aren't moving them much this shouldn't be a problem.. also if you need to replace them they are sold for about $20 a piece.. The lights themselves you cannot Dim them.. They have 2 on/off switches that each control 2 of the 4 bulbs.. If by chance you only need the light from one of the 4 bulbs.. slightly unscrew 1 Bulb of the 2 that are still on from the one switch and boom.. 1 bulb lit.. The green screen Fabric is pretty heavy duty for what it is.. Perfect Chroma Green.. Keying Worked easily with CS6 Premiere and After Effects..Packing it back up in the bag is a bit of a challenge.. Goodluck..It ships with all needed bulbs.. The Boom Stand is a Single Large Bulb..One great thing is the bulbs do not get hot.. even after hours of use.. touching the diffuser was only slightly warm.. the unit itself stays rather cool.. the bulbs are touchable almost immediately after shutting them off

After I used it these are my thoughts
It's a good thing I bought a green screen by accident earlier as the one this comes with does not quite fit. It needs to be bigger so that it can be pulled tight to the frame to avoid cresses and wrinkles that show up in editing. The instructions were crap. I basically had to figure it all out myself. I did have one bar leftover I am not sure what it is for and one white square that I could not make fit the last light set.I did youse it thought with the other screen I purchased and it worked well. You will need to get the bigger screen and use some clamps to hold it tight to the frame. Even with the above problems, I think it is well worth the money. I used the screen they provided on the floor.
