Why would you want to use 4 aa batteries if 2 aa batteries work?

Hi, With 4 batteries you achieve a higher runtime with optimal brightness so if you think you'll need it for an extended period of time and in the brightest setting, 4 AA batteries would be recommended. On the other hand, during an emergency situation, if you don't have 4AAs, just 2, you can still use your light. Hope this helped. Thanks

This lantern is very dim on the 4x amazon aa rechargeables. is it expected? does it reqiures alkaline aa batteries only to provide bright 200lm light?

I just use Duracell batteries (not rechargeable). Mine are very bright this way.
