If you are alone you can buy this book to learn how to perform the basic excersises and how does it affects the muscles but the first book strength traing is the best.Honestly saying soes not worth for the value. I will suggest the first book strength training anatomy and Encyclopedia Of Muscle And Strength author Jim Stoppani will be a better option.

This book has a ton of information and great illustrations. I love Delavier's work. Just keep in mind that it emphasizes HOME workouts which I didn't realize and wasn't what I was looking for. Still great information
