Bought it for my grandson, a little complicated for him but I taught him how to use it.

I don't have an extensive background on "hunting" but this seems to work well. The instructions would be far better with some good illustrations as setting up the detector and using it isn't very intuitive. If you pull it out of the box and just start using it without understanding what each knob does you will either be totally lost or find every piece of gum wrapper and nail in the area. You must do research and practice to find valuable treasures. If set and used properly its very effective. It does not have all the bells and whistles but gets the job done. The most important knob to find actual valuables is the discrimination knob. This knob can help you tell if its aluminum foil or a coin.So my advice is fully read the instructions and hunting guide then practice using coins you can see to fully understand how it works. If you don't do this expect to find a ton of garbage and dig a bunch of big holes. Good luck and happy hunting.

I have never metal detected before and was looking to get into it. I really didn't know if I would like it so I wasn't ready to drop over $100 on something I would use a few times if it wasn't my thing. I shopped around and compared prices with features and stumbled upon this guy. It shipped and arrived within three days of ordering (1 day before estimated arrival) and was very neatly packaged. Putting together was extremely easy. Fast forward, what a fun little detector that works incredibly well for the price! I already found tons of treasures on the beach and in my yard. The guide was very helpful too! If your on the fence or buying a detector on a budget or a newbie like me, I would highly recommend this one!

These worked well (they need two 9V batteries) Kids enjoyed using it on a scavenger hunt. Unit must have been left on and was totally dead a couple days later.There should be a light as an on/off indicator so it's not left on and you drain 8 bucks worth of batteries.

We love our metal detector! I got it on a Sunday, put it together, and headed to the beach. It was really simple to put together. (make sure you have 9V batteries on hand) My 11 year old daughter was so excited that I didn't even have time to read how to use the detector. It was so simple to figure out while at the beach. It worked perfectly. We found a couple of coins, screws, bottle caps, and of course lots of garbage. We felt good because while treasure hunting we were able to help clean up the beach. I would recommend this metal detector to anyone starting out, the price is right, its the perfect starter for family fun, and it works great!

The product works as described but has a few shortcomings as listed below1. The shovel is very useless and after just 2-3 digs it was unusable as it was loose beyond repair.2. The detector does not tell you how deep an object might be or what the object is.3. It is difficult to read signals on the analog display as the needle is very jumpy. You would not be able to read a signal but could tell about a range of 10-204. It has a small search coil of only 5 inches.5. The rod connecting the metal detector to the coil is bendy and very plasticy

The unit arrived packed in a a box with formed packing to protect the lightweight metal detector. You will need to provide 2 9-volt batteries. After the easy assembly, I was off to find my buried sprinkler heads! Who thought this would be so useful in the garden? The shovel is a nice add-on to the kit with a carry bag for it. Detecting works as expected, finding all my irrigation devices. Use headphones to hear the beeping and on very low volume as you can hear it very clear. Easy to disassemble to place in your trunk and use on the beach to find buried treasure! Overall great unit for the price.

I bought this for finding property markers and cleaning up some woods of trash. It worked for maybe ten minutes and then the needle would stay pegged and the alarm wouldn't shut off after it sensed any metal. I had to turn it off and back on to reset the detector. I thought it was broken.It turns out the first set of batteries I used were not as new as I thought. I put in some cheapy new batteries right from the store and it worked perfect after that. With the low power batteries, it also had about a 1-2" diameter search area. With the new ones, it used the entire 8" diameter detector and then some. I am happy with it.
