can you remove the cable on the back of the usb?

Each cable is molded to the female USB port. Both cables are held in place by a small circuit board. If your question was: Is each cable connected to the female USB port with a removable connector, the answer is no.

Would this work with Linux?

USB 3.0 is not really OS depended. I have a Linux computer that has USB 3.0 build in and it seems to be working. You need to make sure your Computer's motherboard has a 20 pin USB connector. If you don't have that 20 pin USB connector then you will need to get a separate EXTENDER card.

My hp desktop have old floppy disk drive.can this be fixed into my desktop slot?

It may fit. The front panel is slightly wider than floppy drives. I didn't care for the fit.

If there is some kind of input lag, it would be caused by some other part of a computer system. This is not a stand alone device, it requires a 3.0 USB hub controller. Whether it's in your computer now or you buy one of the many USB hub controllers available. Search "USB 3.0 hub controller" on Amazon.
