Gold Cord

Amy Carmichael does not waste words in her description of how God led her to rescue young girls destined to serve as sex objects in Indian temples - a practice that was outlawed in 1948. The work became Dohnavur Fellowship that continues today in South India. Gold Cord is a deeply spiritual book describing how God enabled the development of the ministry in spite of opposition. Carmichael mentions very little about herself but includes many of her poems. For a biography of Carmichael herself, see "A Chance to Die," by Elisabeth Elliot. This book is very needed in the life of a Christian. It tells not only of a life woven with a Gold Cord but also of a life of faith and substance, far beyond anything that we might have seen before. It should be a required reading for every person who wants to get in deeper with God.

This book came with perfect timing. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys biographies that have amazing true stories.

She is a great person, did great things, and sacrificed so much. I just could not get into it.
