Perler Fused Bead Pattern Pad Summertime Fun

My kids love Perler beads and these books help them make some really cool things! We have a few different books like this and I feel like they’re an essential if you want to keep making new things.

My daughters love to do crafts, and they love Perler Beads! We can spend hours together sorting the beads, finding patterns, beading the patterns, and then playing with our new beaded friends. I was happy to discover this pattern book. It has 110 patterns for the large, clear pegboards. The advantage to these patterns is that the boards fit directly over the pattern so that they can see through the board directly on to the design. The book is also spiral-bound, so it sits carefully flat to make and keep the board straight. These designs also include three dimensional effects like ears that go sideways on the elephant, a stand for the ice cream sundae, a mane for the lion and even feet for the crocodile. These added dimensions make for a more fun, more interactive finished product for playing. Doing the craft is only half the fun! Playing with the finished product should be fun, too, and that is what this pattern book really brings to life. Patterns are suitable for both boys and girls - Birds, snakes, skunks, tiger, panther, giraffe, trees, unicorn, dragon, peacock, ships of all sorts, astronaut, rocket, trucks, cars, several photo frame designs, flowers, and even artistic shapes and patterns. I would recommend this craft for kindergarten through third grade. It makes a great birthday gift along with a big package of beads!

Some of the ideas are great - particularly the 3D patterns. But, my gripe is that all the patterns are for use with either a large square or large hexagon pegboard - preferably clear. I wish this had been stated in the description. We have a large square but not a large hexagon which means we can't create 1/2 the patterns shown. Also, our pattern board is not clear - which makes it difficult for our younger child to make the creation. I had bought some buckets of perler beads with pegboards included - but these pegboards are coloured, not clear, so even if you had a pattern book for these shapes, again, it would be hard for young kids to use.

The Perler Instruction Pad for Fuse Beads offers 86 fun and creative designs that kids (ages 6 and up) will love. The patterns are colorful, durable in print quality, and beautifully illustrated, making it easy to follow along. The compact size makes it easy to store and flip through when choosing a project. However, keep in mind that this pad does not include beads or accessories, and it also doesn’t tell you how many beads are needed for each design — you’ll need to estimate while building. Referring to the pictures helps, and I definitely recommend investing in clear pegboards to make following the designs much easier.
