Reality of Atlantis
Impressively researched, Atlantis in the Amazon is a fascinating account of artifacts gathered by Father Crespi from natives of Ecuador, saved by him, and eventually confiscated by the Ecuadorian government only to be lost and given away for almost nothing. Richard Wingate connects the artifacts with their countries of origin, making a case for the existence of the continent of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean. Mr. Wingate shows how Atlantis was destroyed by a "Doomsday Machine" in a war fought for world domination, using advanced nuclear technology. A Fembril winter (somewhat like a Wisconsin winter lasting 300 years) resulted from this nuclear attack. We hope that history will not repeat itself. The book has wonderful photography of the artifacts and of the tunnel where Father Crespi had hidden them. Unfortunately, Father Crespi's kindness, expressed by his willingness to pay the natives for obviously counterfeit pieces, caused scientists and other officials to question the authenticity of the entire collection, implying that Father Crespi was a fraud and had no true understanding of the value of the pieces. Actually, he had impeccable understanding.I thought it was a terrific book.

Trade
It was very interesting. Not sure I agree with the author about Atlantis, but do agree that the World traded before what we know of the time trading started.

Thought provoking read
Anyone who as an open mind will find this to be a thoughtful and interesting read. Supports my long held beliefs that there is and was a more intelligent civilization in our past.

Atlantis in the Amazon
I enjoyed this book very much, because I'm sure we can find Atlantis all over the world! This book was a read that was hard to put down and just wanted to finish.

Intersting but not convincing.
I did not find the evidence presented in this book to be particularly convincing, though I support the general theme of the book. It may be good for someone unfamiliar with the idea of a lost continent of Atlantis being more than a popular myth or legend.

Disjointed...
This book is very disjointed at times. Unfortunately, that is a symptom of Richard Wingate's confirmation bias. He has already determined his conclusions at the beginning, and everything is evidence he's right, even known forgeries. The problem is that, as is often the case, evidence can be interpreted in multiple ways. If this had focused more on Father Crespi's treasures, and less on jumping from questionable interpretation to circumstantial evidence (which, unfortunately, is about all we have) it would have been a better book.

Amazing Information
I found the information in this book a real eye opener, confirming that Atlantis was a highly developed civilization - also that we can learn much from the past - mistakes that were made with the misuse of technology that brought down their continent. One Star
Not what I expected. Title seems much different than what us actually written. Disappointing.
