What is the food safe finish used?

The Sauerstomper sauerkraut pounder is made of raw, untreated German beech wood that is turned then sanded smooth. We do not finish it with any additional sealants like oil or wax. This is because there is no singular natural option that is appropriate for everyone due to food allergies (e.g. beeswax, nut oils, etc.) so we leave it up to our customers to decide what sealant is right for them. German beech wood is very dense so sealing your Sauerstomper is completely optional. As long as you avoid subjecting it to extremely wet environments for extended periods of time (e.g. no dishwasher, no soaking in water) it will function perfectly fine unsealed.

The SAUERSTOMPER is made of Beech wood sourced from Germany that is transported to China for manufacturing. In China, the wood is "turned" which gives the SAUERSTOMPER its hourglass shape, then it is sanded smooth and left untreated.
