A true story of perseverance of a family's journey through life's horrors. What and inspiration to all. May peace find all.
One Step Ahead By Avraham AzrieliA family saga that is true to life and has you on the edge, of every chapter, not knowing when or if they will survive the horrors, hate and revengeothers inflict on the masses for their own gain or crazy feelings, wants or thoughts. What life must have been for this family and many, many others during war time, trying to keep their families together and all alive at the same time was not only difficult but almost an impossible task. Is there a G_D? Well for this family and some very special, few others, their beliefs kept them together and moving forward, this was a feat to behold and get through, together.Their fate was tried at every turn until miracles happened or they took unsavory chances to help themselves survive, however they could. For this family there was a happier ending, but for millions of others, not so. We have to make sure history doesn't repeat it self anywhere in the world, ever again.Thank you for letting us all share your life's journey and clearly for your survival in all you went through. Your family is an inspiration to many others whom have been through to hell and back, maybe this will help to keep the world's eyes more pealed to helping everyone and not repeating the worse times in history. May peace find all.

A JEWISH WOMAN'S FAITH IN G-D CAN SAVE
Another page turner by Azriel. This non-fiction reads like a novel. The mother of 7 children, the wife of a kind and gentle man, the "guardian" of a young couple on the verge of a birth of a child and a strong young uneducated man in love with her daughter. She leads them out of Poland into Russia just ahead of Hitler's troops. The family faces illness, death, starvation, prison, draft into the army, marriage out of the faith and the misery just does not stop...but the woman puts her families safety in the hands of G-d and demands that He save the family. They finally end up all together....you will have to read this page turner to find out where. You will have emotional ups and downs as you read through this wonderful true tale. The author's research was extensive interviewing family members and researching Nazi and Russian war records. It is a must read in my opinion.

Survival, faith, and determination: history made personal
Azrieli, an adept writer of historical thrillers, is at his best in this genuine story of a mother who successfully led her family of seven children to safety from German Nazis. Deftly interweaving personal narrative with actual quotations and dispatches from the Third Reich, Azrieli tells a moving tale of survival, faith, and determination peopled by real individuals with both strengths and limitations. Based on meticulous research and extensive interviews, One Step Ahead is a holocaust survival story with a difference. Highly recommended.

Harrowing Journey
Avraham Azrieli is one of my favorite writers. I have read most of his books and totally enjoy his subject matter and his writing. In this book I became part of the family and did the harrowing journey with them. I liked his later books better than this one, but this is still a great read.

Variation on the Jewish experience in WWII
The title tells the story. In this book you view a family escaping the Germans rather than attempting to hide or not realizing what would happen. The book is based on a real family. A reader knowing what happened can still follow the narrative. It wasn't hard to read and does provide another view.

A mother's Love
It was a very moving true story of survival for her family against the growing threat of the Nazi regime. Her strength and courage to save her children shows how deep a Mother's love goes when her children's lives were at stake. It was very interesting and touching.

is an enjoyable and important book. We all need to read and be aware of true stories such as this to help us understand what happened in World War 11 and what is happening now.

A story of Faith and courage
A beautifully written book. I appreciate the incite this book gives to trials and hardship that the Jews and other displaced people had to endure trying to save their loved ones from Hitler's terror. It is something we must all remember as General Eisenhower said when the Allies liberated the Concentration camps :Take pictures of all of this for sometime in the future some S.O.B. will claim it never happened.

A remarkable true story
I have read most of the books written by Avraham Azrieli and consider this to be his best work. Recounting the courage and bravery on one families journey of survival from the terrors of Nazi atrocities perpetrated against the Jews of Eastern Europe is heart wrenching for us all. This book is a sombre read but captures the struggle for survival of the Jewish people and serves as a reminder of the terrible events of the Second World War lest we should ever forget. I wish to congratulate the author and hope that this book is widely read by all compassionate and and honourable folk.

Not as good as his other books
I loved the Jerusalem assassin but I don't feel this is in the same league . Whilst I sympathised with the protagonists I found myself skipping large chunks of unnecessary descriptions .I was determined to finish the book but it was a struggle
