It weighs just under 20 lbs. A regular tamping bar weighs 17.

Is there a shorter version - 48”?

what is the diameter of the shaft? what is the weight of the tool? Is this 1 piece or is the head mounted on the shaft?

I haven’t weight the tool... But I’d guess it at 30lbs. The tool is one solid piece of steel.

Can you use a sledge hammer to drive it through roots? Please only answer if you know for sure.

As long as you keep the edge sharp it works very well. It requires some strength as it becomes very heavy to the arms after using for a while. I would highly recommend this and enjoy using it for a work out as well as the intended use of getting rid of my surface roots so the mower will not bottom out.
