Joe Turner --- Does it Get Any Better?
One of the great early uptempo blues singers to leap onto the early r&r listening audience. His voice and energy can still pack a wallop. Some timeless classic tunes from the early 50's. For me, a must have!

Good Stuff
Gotta love it. How guys like this (the immediate precursors to rock and roll) don't get more recognition is a travesty.

The Atlantic Years
This is a great collection of 1950s material from blues shouter Big Joe Turner. Disc 1 = 45:00, 2 = 38:36. The cover does not tell you that these recordings are all from the Atlantic catalog; "Definitive Atlantic Collection" would be a better and more informative title. Bill Dahl's liner notes are informative. I give this 4 rather than 5 stars due to the lack of personnel listings, and due to what I consider a slightly misleading title. That said, the music is excellent, showcasing Turner's unlikely rise to early rock and roll stardom from his earlier jazz and R&B roots.
