'Wheatfield Soul' was The Guess Who s U.S. debut album and launched the Canadian group to international stardom with the classic Top 10 hit 'These Eyes.' The classic lineup of The Guess Who (with Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman) display their eclectic mix of influences on 'Wheatfield Soul', numbering pop, garage rock, Doors style psychedelia, jazz, and folk. Iconoclassic Records 40th Anniversary Edition of 'Wheatfield Soul' has been digitally remastered from the original master tapes and features in-depth liner notes with new interviews from producer Jack Richardson and all of the band members. Additionally, three rare and sought after single sides (two making their worldwide CD debut) have been added as bonus tracks, making this the definitive edition of a landmark album Review: A long lost classic found again. - It was wonderful to hear this album once again. I first heard it in 1970, when I went into the Navy. I had the cassette at that time and listened to Wheatfield Soul everyday leading up to going overseas. The popular song on this LP is These Eyes, but my second favorite is Friends Of Mine, a massive 10 minute plus masterpiece. The song makes me think that Burton Cummings used The Doors as an inspiration because of its dark subject matter. The only complaint is the second song on side one has a slight skip, but I'll live with it as it doesn't affect the song that much. Review: This is a great album. - This is the album that brought The Guess Who into the limelight with some really great songs.

Wheatfield Soul---Prairie Pride
This fine reissue of the 1969 LP should further help define Burton Cummings as one of Rock's most underrated singers, and the Guess Who as an underrated pop group, not too far behind the Beatles and Stones..... That said: I have seen the Guess Who seven times in concert (1970--2001) and own over 15 of their RCA albums. Although I have always rated Wheatfield Soul as "middle of the pack," it has been growing legs with each passing year, it's charm growing with time (possibly because of Randy Bachman's return to the group, circa 2000). The deep liner notes are worth the price of admission, the foursome giving memories of the writing/recording process (oddly, the original LP has no photos, and the liner notes here have no photos, either). The sound is pure and natural, remastered by Vic Anesini. This album in the past has been described as a group casting about for a style--probably true. Here we have the 10 minute Jim Morrison freakout/tribute "Friends of Mine" alongside an Eleanor Rigby-lite "Maple Fudge" (possibly the album's only filler). By the way, I'll take Friends of Mine OVER the Doors' The End and When The Music's Over. All in all, a very, very nice reissue effort from Iconoclassic........we can only hope for the same treatment on "American Woman" and "Share The Land"--the two greatest Guess Who albums.

This album by the Canadian group "THE GUESS WHO" is one of the best albums ever recorded. Has always been one of my favorites as their other records they did. In my opinion, "THE GUESS WHO" Canada's answer to "THE BEATLES"

Don't buy if you are a collector
If you collect records, don't buy. Cover of record came creased. Not sure yet as to the record itself, as it is a Christmas present. Sad

My Dad bought me this LP when I was in my early teens (1970's). Loved it then, love it still. Only I haven't been able to play it as we don't have a record player set up at present. So pleased I found the CD.

Hard to believe that this group is not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame yet another Canadian band Rush did not compare to this band in originality yet was entered.last year. I guess it does not pay to criticize the USA (American Woman)! This was their first with Burton and best although many great singles soon followed. "Friends Of Mine" does not appear on any of their compilations, believe it or not.

I originally purchased this album in vinyl, oh so long ago. This purchase now is mostly to hear it clean again, without some of the things that vinyl records can develop. As I listened to it I became super-impressed at how great all the songs sounded. The written enclosure with the CD, included another good idea. That each song is critiqued by individual band members, thus providing all the answers to questions that this album had developed with time. Apparently, the song 'friends of mine' was not all that well received when it was first released. I never heard any negativity then, as most fans of Rock & Roll were blown away. All the tunes have stood the test of time and are even more awesome now. Any serious Guess Who fan will love this album. The talent of this band is out of this world man!

WHEATFIELD SOUL was the first disc of THE GUESS WHO and it was wonderful to hear those long lost songs once again, some i had not heard for over 60 years if you can believe that. A Canadian great, in 1968 and even more so now in 2017 ( a lifetime later ) long after the band itself had broken up.
