How does the lamp shade fit onto the fitting, does it just balance there?

There should be a ring that unscrews on the bulb holder. Unscrew the ring, place the shade holder on the bulb holder and then fix by screwing the ring back to keep the shade holder in place. Am away from home or I’d send a video. Simon

How do you work out what size you need? My lamp shade is 7 3/4” high and 14” across

So far I have only used the taller holder. It seems to work with my various lamps no matter how big or small it is.
