Q: 1) what kind of leather is this made of? 2) can i remove the plastic window from the id slot?

I don't know what kind of leather it is made from, but the 'tan' color leather is almost a very lightly 'brushed' leather. Not a shiny/smooth leather and has slight imperfections in it. Personally I think it's very nice and gives it a unique character. The plastic window cannot be removed.
