Is a square or round base boot better for a 4-12 pitch steel standing seam roof?

Round Dektites are great for a roof pitch of 10/12 and under. Square Dektites, are for 10/12 roof pitch and higher, due to having a larger base and helps with water not forming a puddle. Square Dektites should be set on the roof in a diamond shape. Both shape are easy to install.

what is the size of the actual base of the #4 3" by 7" not the dimensions of the box

I mam not sure of the exact size, but it's prob ably 16 inches. I don't remember the exact size. That is the best I can do.It is a good product and easy to install. Make sure to wet the pipe with a teaspoon of dish soap in the water before slipping the boot down the pipe.

Will this work on a 2 and a 1/2 inch pipe

This flashing is for Pipe Outside diameter of 3" to 7" so a 2 1/2" pipe will be too small. There are others on this site and in most home improvement stores that will fit that size of pipe.
