Perfect basic computer.
My company purchased these as a replacement for some first-gen i3 HP laptops. We use them in medical clinics for Physicians and Therapists to create reports using a proprietary program. Our program has evolved in to quite a resource hog, so the 3 year old i3 machines were getting a bit slow. These machines are quite powerful and do the job well. They were much easier to downgrade to Win7 than most laptops I buy. The brushed black finish is handsome and does well with fingerprints. Our clinicians are pleased with them and so is the IT guy (me). The drawbacks are: No USB 3.0, no Numpad, and if you want to install an SSD, most of the machine has to be disassembled. The product description seems to be the main reason people have given these bad ratings. It seems accurate to me, but perhaps amazon edited it at some point.Overall, this machine is nothing fancy, but is more than adequate for day-to-day computing tasks.

Three Stars
Very nice standard laptop. Great when new but after some time hardware problems.

It manages a 13 year old kid...
I bought this lap-top for my 13 year old kid and I am happy that it allows my kid to play and make homework easily and with no delays. This lap-top boots really fast even with many applications hanged from the start (Skype, drivers, game servers, etc.) and the operating system seems to be really easy to learn. The i5 core processor, the hard disk and the memory allows playing games, be connected to internet and social networks, send to print wireless and access information in an external storage all at the same time with no suffer. The i5 core it is an excellent option for a multipurpose machine in a good price. The chassis and keyboard are strong enough to manage the utilization of a 13 year old kid. The only drawback I can see is the pre-built camera since its resolution is low but at the end is not a big problem. I strongly recommend this item; I like it and it likes to my boy so we are happy and more than that I bought it in a cheaper price.

Fragile Screen, Bad Customer Service from Dell
The screen on this computer is not durable and customer service from Dell is atrocious. I closed my computer, sat it on my desk, and went to the kitchen to make dinner. When I came back (after I stuffed my face full of tacos), I opened the computer and was greeted by a broken screen. There is a crack about 5 inches long, running from about three inches from the bottom right corner of the monitor toward the center. The remainder of the screen is white... so I'm unable to remove my personal information (school assignments, personal documents, movies, music, adult entertainment...).I contacted Dell to have the computer repaired, because that's what the Amazon website told me to do. I spoke with some guy who was somewhat difficult to understand. He told me that Dell would not repair the screen on the computer because the only way for it to break is by accident. I certainly beg to differ. I do not make a habit of slamming down computer screens or dropping bricks on them.I had two other issues. One was that the computer would randomly close programs and one day shut down several times in a row. The other is that the internet connectivity speed leaves something to be desired. The computer is moderately speedy... it has a decent amount of memory and can process a number of tasks at the same time. For some reason, the download speed on the computer was significantly slower than what it was on my old netbook... so it took forever (45+ minutes) to download a 20-25 minute episode of a tv show, despite having high speed internet and being located directly above the router for the wireless.I am returning the item to Amazon in the morning. It's rather peculiar that the product I received shipped from the city in which I live, but to return it, it has to go across the country (from Phoenix to Kentucky).I'll order something else from Amazon to replace this computer, but whatever I order certainly will not be from Dell.

One of the Many
Even after reading the many reviews from people who had ordered this model computer and had actually received a lesser model, I ordered this laptop hoping that I would be one of the few people who wrote reviews saying that they received their laptop and were happy with their purchase. Unfortunately I am one of the many who ordered the 3910 model but received the 3520 model, to make matters worse I received an email from Amazon Customer Service telling me that the 3520 model is the generic model for all Inspiron 15N Dell laptops and I should check the side of the box to see that it says that the computer that I received is the 3910 model! I promptly looked up the listing (on Amazon)for the Dell Inspiron 3520 model (which is listed on the Amazon site for much less than the 3910 model) and I informed Amazon Customer Service that the side of the box does indeed say that my item is the 3910 model but the computer INSIDE the box is the 3520 model, which is NOT what I ordered. Also I informed Amazon customer service that there is a listing for the 3520 model which is a lesser model than the 3910 model and that there are many reviews from many purchasers stating this very problem. I would like to know if any other Amazon purchasers of this item has had a similar experience with customer service, and how was the issue resolved? I advised customer service to either rectify this error by sending the correct model laptop that I ordered, or refund my purchase. After so many reviews about the wrong model computer being shipped inside of the wrong box, I would think that Amazon would be on top of this issue. It's definitely misleading that the outside packaging claims that the item is one thing but the actual item is something totally different than what is advertized. Every review stating the same problem with this item casts a bigger and bigger shadow on Amazon's credibility, I hope they look into this and fix this very serious problem.UPDATE:I just received the "replacement" laptop from Amazon customer service, and sadly the same scenario happened again! Once again I received a box that says model 3910 but the model inside the box was 3520, I promptly called Amazon customer service, explained my situation and after 2 representatives looking up the 3520 model on the Amazon website and seeing the difference in the prices, and coming to the conclusion that maybe Amazon should do a check on this product, my issue was resolved very quickly. With that said let me say that For The Price this is an AWESOME product!! I love the sleekness of this laptop, I am learning the in's and out's of Windows 8 and so far this is another great purchase from Amazon! Also customer service was Fantastic! All in all with a little help from customer service this was another great buy from a great company! Good Job Amazon!
