whats a good match with this pickup for the neck position?

That's tough, kinda matters what guitar it is going in and what tone you are looking for. I guess I would say 490T for a classic smooth rock feel or a 59 classic for more of a cleaner Jazz/Country tone. However if you have the time or access to a good guitar tech something like a stag mag SH-3 with a split coil configuration will give you a huge amount of tonal variations. Texas type growls with some sparkly highs when split.

How is the bluesy sound on it. I am planning on making it the only pickup in a homemade guitar. Does it have a good range from clean to distortion?

I guess this depends on the blues sound you're looking for. I play through Fender amps and the tone when played clean reminds me of some of the tones BB King had or Billy Gibbons. But for me, the best blues tone is a single coil in the neck position and you're not going to get that kind of clean with this pickup. The distortion side is truly amazing and there is a lot of flexibility on that end for all sorts of dirty type blues. Slide playing sounds good, too. Hope that helps a little.
